Root Before I root again...

I have what may be a silly question, but I will fire it off anyway... being stoopid has never stopped me before.

I have recently flashed to the DL09 stock that was posted in the forums and of course that wiped all the modifications I had made prior, including root, corporate email, GV, home screens- everything. (Which I knew ahead of time it would and decided to simply add back what was lost).

Is there a way to capture or image what I have right now as a ROM to flash back to this state at some point in the future? This way if (when) I screw up something I can get back to this stock jumping off point.

Thanks In Advance

Boot into clockwork and take a backup-it is a complete snapshot of your phone as it stands today.

I was under the impression I needed to be rooted to get clockwork, is Clockwork already on a stock device?

I have tried the <Down Volume> <Power On> to get into recovery but it is not doing anything at this time.

Thanks

Followed the instructions to install CWM - that went fine. However the link to the Update.zip file is broken. Dropbox is showing 404 error.

Sorry, I assumed you had cwm on the phone already. If you pushed cwm via Odin, the next step is to download rom manager from the market and select Daley clockwork mod recovery-then select samsung fascinate. Should actually perform that step twice. You should then be able to boot into cwm through rom manager or via the 3 button method to take your backup.

I guess I am just not making the connection from dot to dot...

ROM Manager requires root <yes?>

I think (from reading the instructions again) I can get CWM to backup my current ROM if I use the Update.zip file and boot using the three-key method (without ROM Manager) as I want to get a snapshot of the current device without it having been rooted.

Am I way off base here?

Sorry DavidnMegan, I was replying at same time you were I guess...

I followed the link to the root regardless thread and it had a valid link to update.zip.

Downloaded... placed into root of sdcard, and trying again now...

Thanks

Interesting turn of events. After installing Clockwork mod, I tested a back up and restore... all seemed fine.

Went out to run errands and I have no Bluetooth. I try to turn it on, it changes to "turning on bluetooth" then goes back to the Off Mode.

I am pretty sure bluetooth still worked after the DL09 update... not 100% sure about it though.

Should I reflash the DL09, check BT, then if working reinstall clockwork and restore a backup?

Thanks

Sorry never used bt with this phone I've broke 3 and haven't bought another since I got this phone. Hopefully someone will pop in and have idea

Just noticed so far this thread has only been ppl in NC :D

Ok, I reflashed the DL09.tar.md5 file and BT is working. Loaded CWM and rebooted, BT not working.

What is there in the CWM that would kill the BT fuctions?

Thanks

yep I noticed that too, odd (not in a bad way)

Since my last post I have rooted, reinstalled Titanium Backup and restored all the "bluetooth" files that I can find in the TiBackup log that I had backed up prior to DL09.

Is there a way to undo the CWM without wiping out my current device settings and such?

I don't know of a way of doing that without losing your stuff, not saying it can't be done. I have never encountered this ?. But if you can hold off till a lil later tonight saps lives by his bt so he may be able to give you some ideas about it.

Saw that earlier as well...very cool.

I am not sure about undoing the cwm but I do recall seeing other bt issues on dl09 but have not been able to find the thread,I'll check xda. Is going back to dj05 an option? I can tell you bt works perfectly on that build as I live on bt daily.

BT is working for me on DL09 too, but when I do the CWM it quits working.
