Root Benefits of Rooting.

I've been toying with the idea of Rooting my nexus 7. But if I'm honest I don't fully understand what Rooting does or what I'll be able to do once my N7 is rooted.

Would someone be kind enough to explain it to me? Thanks

Rooting an android device is the same as getting administrator rights on your windows PC. The link supplied above does a good job of explaining things.

Basically, root allows you to make the phone yours.

Ooooo so with the OTG cable to if rooted could I say plug a memory pen in with music on and it would expand my N7s memory while connected?

Yes you should be able to. There is a way to use the USB OTG cable without being rooted but I can't remember the process. It's somewhere on this board though

I might manually update tomorrow and then root as this would be a brilliant way to have music and films on my nexus without taking up my Nexus' memory...

Will look into this tomorrow!

Will also look into Non rooting method too!

Probably the main reason most people root, including myself, is the ability to backup all files on the phone. Then you can also overclock, and for the more extreme you can download and install custom roms to your phone
