Best android device for running n64?

Here's the deal. I'm looking to purchase an android. I literally only want it for one function, emulators.

I've heard they play N64 quite well, and that you can hook your PS3 controller up to them via blue tooth.

So I'm wondering what Android I should get (I'm assuming a tablet)

I just want to be able to play N64, NES, and SNES games. I've heard android atm is the best option for doing N64.

I'm completely new to android. Obviously with just playing older games, I'm not so much worried about memory size or anything like that. Just something that will function great, and allow me to play those systems using a PS3 controller.

If I need to add any more information, please let me know. Just wondering what will give me the most success.

Thanks a lot guys, I seriously appreciate even the most little bit of help I can get!

Probably around 200. But I wouldn't buy anything unless it could run N64 and PS1 games. Talking about stuff like Resident Evil, Twisted Metal, Mario Party, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64 etc... if that helps.

The note 2!! Runs N64 emu easily! With joypad center you can connect ps3 controller wirelessly

Yep, not much beats the Nexus 7 for price/performance. :)

Awesome, and can it use a PS3 controller? Do I need to do anything besides plug my mini usb into the tablet?

Any any idea how well it would run the games I mentioned above? I suppose in like comparison to how a PC would run them?

Well bare in mind the N64 and PSX emulators are far from perfect so I'm not even sure if all those games will work, however from experience Mario Kart and Super Mario run just fine.

And yes you can just plug in the PS3 controller directly using an OTG cable and it should work.

Okay. Perhaps I should do a bit more research. I mean if I knew the emulators for N64 and PS1 would just just as well on Android as they do on PC, I'd do it for sure. And I realize that even on the PC there is still some bugs. But if it's worse than how they run on PC, I'm not sure if I'd make the investment.

Thanks for the help.

Its pretty much game dependent if it will work well or not, kinda like on a PC. For example, PSXE recommends a certain version (1.5) works best for Squaresoft games, while later versions not so well. I've tried Chrono Cross and FF and they work well using FPSE.

ePSXe 1.8.x for Android should have the same insanely high compatibility as its PC counterpart, from what I can tell.

As far as devices go, my Transformer Infinity runs both n64 and PSX games fairly well, and the Bluetooth stack on the device supports connecting to Wiimotes (and therefore any other Bluetooth controller) out of the box -- you just need to grab whatever app you wanna use to connect.

Downside is the price, though -- its a $500 (US) tablet! :D

make sure that whatever you get, it has an HDMI port on it! then you can plug the thing into your TV and it's like you've got the real consoles.

I never even thought, is it possible to play multiplayer with multiple PS3 controllers on a Nexus 7? That's a pretty essential thing for me!

Best question.

Can I use two Wii remotes, hooked up to classic wii controllers to play emulators?

Depending on the connection app, yes!

For your 8/16bit console emulation needs, I totally recommend the ".emu" emulators (NES.emu, SNES9x EX, PCE.emu, MD.emu, GBC.emu, GBA.emu, etc.), as they have native support for wiimotes and you do not need an outside app to connect wiimotes to them. They also natively support multiple controllers seamlessly.

Downside is that they are not free, with the exception of SNES9x EX and SNES9x EX+. But hey, you pay for what you get. :)

How about if I want to use it for N64 or PSX?

So I bought a Nexus 7. Played Mario Party 3 on MegaN64, and it ran pretty much flawlessly. Only problem, lots of glitches. Things be put in the wrong places on the screen, stuff not appearing.

Is there any way to fix this? Is there a better emulator I should be using?

Really impressed that it was running at full speed. Even during mini game.

I downloaded SNES9X EX+ but I can't get the Wiimote connected. I do the same thing I would do on my iphone, just press 1 and 2 and click connect on my nexus, but it keeps coming back that it failed.

Any idea why it may happen?

Is it because I'm using Android 4.2.1? Because that would really suck if it's the case...

For those, you will need an outside app, search the play store for "Wiimote Controller" to find some.

Connect using those, then change your input method to whatever it suggests you change to, then go into the emulator and you can map your buttons that way. Note that these apps make your controller act like an external Bluetooth keyboard input, so if you wanna get your touch-screen keyboard back, you'll need to switch back to the android keyboard under input method.

Sadly, yes. Android 4.2 seriously screwed up the Bluetooth stack. You're not the only one to notice problems, a LOT of people are annoyed at this.

Is this something Android would have done on purpose? Do we know if they plan on fixing it?
