I'm new to Android and my rooted gsm Galaxy Nexus. I have accumulated a few file managers and would now like to consolidate them if possible. At the moment I have these installed:
Yes, I know Terminal Emulator is not a file manager; I mention it in case its functionality happens to be built into some file manager. So far I've been using WiFi File Transfer in conjunction with my PC's browser to transfer files back and forth. It's a very simple and easy interface. I've just started using File Expert in FTP mode in conjunction with the Directory Opus file manager on my PC. This seems to be a very sophisticated and flexible approach. I started out with ES File Explorer for standalone file management on phone. I do want the capability to manage system files on occasion. If I can consolidate to hopefully one file management app, I will be happy to purchase the Pro version if necessary.
Update: I just did a benchmark test transferring a folder containing 494 files for a total of 429 MB using WiFi File Transfer and File Expert. It took File Expert in FTP mode 13.3 minutes and WiFi File Transfer only 8.5 minutes. The difference may have been caused by the fact that WiFi File Transfer automatically sends it across as a zip file measuring 327 MB. As an aside, it is worth noting that in principle I should be able to do file transfers over the USB interface using Directory Opus without any special app on the phone side. At the moment this method is failing midway through the transfer with a 'cannot read file' error message? The transfer is proceeding much quicker up to the point of failure!
