Tomorrow I will be lookin to purchase some form of android tablet.

The best deal I have found so far is a ARCHOS 80 G9 from pcworld for

well bud, not many people know tablets, its a touchy situation, we dont know where you are, if this is going to be on a plan, or a wifi only tablet, dont know what your going to use it for, you are obviously in the UK, so some of us dont know what they would offer in the UK, if it were me, i would find one i liked and played with it, this is going to be something you buy, there are a dozen android tablets out there, it just all depends on what you want to get.

A 2nd hand Asus transformer from a decent source on eBay will b ur best bet, with the new ics update it is supurb, easily a match for the iPad 2.

VS - I hadn't considered locale, my bad. Tbh I want it to do as much of the normal things as possible but also being a bit of a pc guru want to get the best grunt possible. Wife is looking at me like I am crossing the funds for tech line so my budget is limited and I do love her lol. I am concerned about sturdiness but not really phased about skype video calls. To watch some YT and maybe some online tv and seeing the opengl hope to try out some 3d games.
I have hopes to share it with my kids too if I can get them to realise being careful vs its sturdiness. More than anything it's another device they can use (I have 5 kids and atm 2 pcs setup and another not) and have fun with plus some web based learning for them.

admob - thanks for that pointer although I learned a long time ago not to buy second hand tech unless desperate which is rare these days. You were borderline right though.. I saw some of those seemingly close to my budget. Then madly enough, seeing the keyboard docks made me think I should probably just consider getting a second hand netbook which although would be much heavier therefore less portable, would stop issues like java and open the door to other windows based possibilities.

I will consider some more... thanks for the responses you two :) much appreciated.

Btw, the archos I mentioned above, is 3.2 with a ICS promise. Do you think that will be grumpy on the hardware listed ? a9 dual core 1gig + 512 rambolious. I saw a 'rant' on YT and comments that have also put me on reserve in this purchase.

im pretty sure a tablet with ics will be coming out soon, and android 3.2 is the honeycomb version, which is a very nice tablet OS, but if you have the patients and the money, i would wait til the ics tablets start coming out
