Root Best Android Version for Game Performance

Chingling

Android Enthusiast
Just wondering which ROMs have better performance: Froyo or Gingerbread. I've heard that Froyo has better performance with games than Gingerbread ROMs, but I just wanted to confirm which one actually does, if there is one that performs better than the other. Thanks in advance.

I personally like CM7, but if your looking for the best game performance go with bRom. Its Froyo but it has the performance of CM7, also it has the ICS adreno drivers which literally doubles your 2d and 3d gaming performance.

I haven't tried games on bRom but I can say I've never seen Minimal Triumph lag on a game (I play HD games) and the latest Minimal Triumph has even more performance then the last :D

I use CM7, performance seems fine. It's a bit variable. It depends on the games you're looking to play though. I've played Xenonia, Angry Birds and Frontline Commando without issue.
If I recall MIUI has good performance also, but I'd wait for someone who uses it to verify.

Thanks guys for all your input. I myself play a lot of HD games, like mobster, and on CM7 they all freeze and lag occasionally and some don't even start. I might try out some Froyo ROMs to test.

Does anyone know what battery drain is on Minimal Triumph or bROM?

Minimal Triumph IMO if fully charged last longer then CM7 and I've heard bRom is pretty good on battery too :)

I use cm7 reloaded final and virtually have no problems with any games, i use my ps3 controller also with the games i play. like gta 3, nova 2, modern combat 2&3 fifa 12, battlefield 2, 9mm, madden 12 and many more. along with many emulators mainly n64 with super smash bros.

I switched to Froyo and notice that gaming is improved, at sacrifice for a slightly worse battery life, but that's alright. I used to play GTA on CM7, but it would be so laggy and freeze/reboot most of the time. Ha, I also use emulators, they worked fine on CM7, but its hard to play certain games because of the Triumph's bad touchscreen. The multitouch is not very accurate for me.

Try the latest Minimal Triumphs v1.0.9 and v1.1 i added touch screen improvements and its very noticeable i also recommend flashing the latest bkernel

Alright, Ill give Minimal a try! Thanks for all your developing work mobstergunz. What's the difference between v1.0.9 and v1.1?

v1.0.9 is similar to the original v1.0 but with more Power and Features (my current Rom) v1.1 is v1.0.9 plus Notification Power Widgets and the Reboot and Recovery Mod (i labeled v1.1 beta because i had to mod the theme a bit to get the NPW and R&R Mod working properly other than that its pretty powerful aswell :D)

FYI, the latest versions of the CM7-based ROM have updated Adreno graphics drivers. This should help a lot with games that use OpenGL graphics. In some benchmarks, the updated drivers doubled the performance compared to stock.

Cm7, bRom, and all ICS builds have the new Adreno drivers. The new adreno drivers first came from ICS but was ported first to CM7 and bRom. I actually get the best performance on CM9. In quadrant, I get an average of 53 FPS on the first 3d test on quadrant as apposed to about 30-40 FPS on CM7 and bRom

That's it???? I got 53 FPS aswell on Minimal Triumph v1.0.9 and my quadrant score was 3002 ...... victory is mine :D

That was at 1.7ghz with performance governor but i leave my phone at 1.2ghz with interactive governor when I'm not playing hardcore HD games

*Note I am using bKernel v2.3

I just flashed the rom but the performance was horrible! I overclocked to 1.6 GHz but I only hit 53 FPS when I started to go up the stairs, the FPS the rest of the time was around 17 FPS. Did you tweak anything to improve the 3D perforamnce? Also the 2D performance is 35 FPS on Minimal Triumph as apposed to the 43 FPS 2D I was getting on CM9.

Weird mine was consistent through out the test..... did you try v1.0.9 or v1.1?

that is what i also i use 1.7ghz with performance. and 1.2 with interactive when not playing. and im also using bkernel 2.3 but im on cm7 reloaded final as my rom. and im currently playing 9mm and nova 2HD with virtually no hiccups.

I also get about 56 fps

Nice! bRom is froyo-based, right? So HDMI still works? That would actually be great for a gaming/video device because you could still put it on TV, but would have the performance benefits of the updated drivers.

Exactly! bRom is Froyo based. HDMI works and with the custom kernel it runs just like CM7. Its a bit heavier on that battery than CM7 but its loads better than stock battery life.

Quadrant and performance tests are not always reliable....my QUADRANT performance sucks on froyo compared to CM7, but when I game I do not lag anymore at all, while on cm7 I would freeze up all the time, so I don't really care what performance score I get, cause my gaming performance is awesome. GTA runs completely smooth now, while on CM7 it wouldn't even boot. Don't always trust those scores!!!

So I just went back to Minimal Triumph and saw that a lot of games like Asphalt 6 won't even download from the Play Store even with the thunder prop. Is there another way to get games working? They worked fine on Miui.

GTA plays great on cm7 i use it with my ps3 controller too.
