Best app for losing weight

WOapp

Lurker
Hello,

I invite everyone to discuss about Android apps for losing weight.

I think that the best in the market is WeightObserver. This one is based on the WW concept and I find it very usefull because is able to:

"Calculates the number of points which you are allowed to consume daily and weekly.
Has a database with over 7000 types of food with their associated points + you can add your own food.
Gives a graphical overview of weight history and points consumed."

You can find out more about this app (how to download the app and how to install it on your phone and even how to use it) by visiting the WeightObserver blog.
Here it is: WeightObserver

So, what app for losing weight you use and why?

I like calorie counter. It syncs with their webbase so if I flash a new ROM I don't lose my old data. Tracks weight, food diary that has a recently eaten and ability to save meals. Very helpful for those like me who eat similar things day after day. Simple daily calorie calculator. Diet calendar that matches up work outs and how much you've actually eaten.

Plus it has a bunch of wegmans brand items.

Only downside is that now I shove my face at the end of the day to make sure I have eaten enough during the day. (Trying to gain weight for the gym)

This application could also be used to lose weight, which is the point of this thread :)

Try ww points diary

Works on the WW points method, where every food is given points based on Cas and Sat. fat.

Just need to find you starting points total per day and you can browse foods, scan foods and plot graphs of weight lost.

Includes widget too.

+1 for Calorie Counter. Love the barcode entry for the food diary, and the weight chart. The website has some added functionality and resources.

I just started using it about a week ago. I love it. It syncs with the web. You can track calories, weight, water consumed, exercise. It knows your most recent foods, most used foods. It has a database of 600,000 + foods but you can also add in foods not found in the database. I've yet to come across one that isn't in their database.

+1... I like it way better than calorie counter. I feel it has a better user interface. The website is pretty cool too. It has a barcode scanner as well

This is pretty different than what you guys are referring to but Diet2Go is really great!! They have a list of diets that are healthy, plus a forum with many different categories to post in. It's a really good support system to go along with all these calorie counting apps.

Check out the New Version of WeightObserver. We did great improvements and now it really seems to be "the most comprehensive and easy-to-use Android app based on the WeightWatchers concept".
Like I told you few months ago, we have a blog where you can find out more about this great app. Here it is: WeightObserver blog
I expect more replies from you all,
Eugene

"They" did great improvements? Just be honest, and use the right pronoun. You did improvements. You are allowed to promote your app here, you won't get in trouble.

Since you asked this question directly, I will give you my honest response as a former personal trainer. The best app is your music player! If you are serious about losing weight then there is no magical app that is going to do it. It takes exercise, eating with common sense, and a strong willpower to keep with it. I strongly suggest hiring a personal trainer and/or dietician. People that do have an exponentially greater chance of success than people doing it on their own.

BTW, I said music player because music often helps people stay focused and motivated during a workout.

I use Noom Weight Loss. You set your goal and it will give you a calorie count and calories to burn to reach that goal. It uses gps and pedometer to track your cardio exercises and has the option to manually input other exercises.

Hi 'Ninja',
I am honest, I didn't make the improvements, my coleaques did them. :)
I edited the message above your post to be formally honest. :)
Thanks,
Eugene

I'm totaly agree with you "UKCatFan", but I tend to belive that you don't know much about WeightWatchers, am I right?
WW is an worldwide known program that have proved it's helpfulness and effectiveness in the losing weight process.
WeightObserver is an app based on this concept of WW, and with an app like ours, folowing this WW program becomes a headache-less process.

I'd say he does since WW is about healthy eating, exercise and motivation.

I know about the program. It is one of the better ones around. I still stand 100% behind saying that hiring a personal trainer and nutritionist will be more successful. Try to find one person qualified as both if possible. WW works for a lot of people, but many those people end up gaining the weight back if they stop being actively involved. Without attending groups regularly, it is all too easy to let bad habits creep back in to your life. Being part of WW and hiring a trainer would also work, but that starts to get expensive. Basically what I am saying is that proper exercise habits along with common sense diets trump WW any day. Not that it is bad, but your question asked what we thought the "best" app is. I am in great shape today, know many people in great shape, am a former competitive bodybuilder, am a former personal trainer, and know many practicing personal trainers. Guess what? None of us use apps to be healthy. We don't need apps for it. It is an aspect of life where a smartphone is really not needed to help. Good luck selling your app through.

One more thing. Are you saying that your app is based on WW and that you would not actually join the program? Or is it a companion to help for those that are part of it? Either way there might be some legalities for you all essentially using their name and program for your own benefit. But, if it is not intended for those paying to be part of the program, then I see even less use. The group meeting aspect of WW is the single most important thing about it.
