Best apps to root a Droid Boinic...

I'm wanting to root my Droid Bionic for a couple of reasons. First, to completely install Avast antivirus, and also to get rid of bloatware.

So, do I need an application to root my phone, or is it done via another method?

If done via an app, can you recommend 2-3 good apps to root my Droid?
