Best bang for your buck phone for the $30 plan?

I am looking for a phone for the $30 plan. I am looking to pay around $300. I'm open to buying a used phone but would want something reliable. Any suggestions?

Motorola Defy...if you can find one. Great reception (typically 9-11dBm better than any other phones), great volume levels on earpiece and speaker, 3.7" screen with 854x480 resolution, easy one-handed operation, and ruggedized/waterproof case w/Gorilla Glass.

...also, it is compatible with AT&T's 850 3G band, and qualifies for the less expansive "dumbphone" data plan.

"4G" as in LTE, or HSPA+? For which network? The Defy is good for up to 7.2Mbps on both T-Mobile and AT&T.

I got an HTC Sensation for the gf and it's pretty good. They go for about $300 on Craigslist. I'm looking at a Samsung Galaxy II for myself now.
