Help Best budget friendly unlocked phone?

[Android Question]

I was a big fan of the one plus one although due to its limited release strategy. I ended up getting a nexus 5 but it's getting really sluggish.
I have a contract right now so I'll either buy an unlocked phone or have to buy out the plan and settle for another contract. Either route would be around 500 dollars. The flagships are closer to 700 it seems so either wondering what the best option is for an unlocked phone around 500 or less would be, or should I just bite the bullet and go with an on contract s6.

Maybe wait for the oneplus two (or whatever they name it). It's been widely rumoured to start at $400.
I have the One and it's an excellent bit of kit for the price so hopefully the Two will follow suit
Have you tried a factory reset on your n5 to see if that speeds her up a bit?

Yeah I have. Always works for a couple days and then back to normal. That and the screen is cracked to shit. 170 to fix so if I'm spending that much I might aswell use it as an excuse to upgrade lol.

Personally I'd wait until a bit later in the year for the oneplus two then although it might be invite only like the one was or you could save yourself some money and get the one without invite but that isn't really much of an upgrade to your nexus unless you like the bigger display
