Well, I got a little story to tell you all, RE: best buy.
Yesterday I was in a larger one, looking up something for an experiment, they had more stock, in a different location, but someone actually offered to help me in the place! After I got the info, I was still in debate mode, had my sister call the closer one to see if they had what I was looking for because I had other stuff to do and was still thinking about stuff. She made the call to the local one (they know us in there) and I came in a couple hours later, still unsure.
At the local store, just two people working there, both helping people, but at least they acknowledged us. I mean, it was cool it took them awhile, they where paying customers and I was still undecided.
A short time later, got into a chat with one of the guys, actually helping from another department. He gave me undivided attention, answered my questions, spent the time to help me, and as a result, I bought something.
Impressive.
Today, a bit more impressive, I had another guy attempt to help me, I inquired about a laptop, Asus Q200e best buy special, I had been looking at it for a bit, and when this new guy came up to help me, I flat told him probably not because the technical question I had if it was possible to boot from a USB stick with Linux on it due to secure boot. He had no idea, told me I could return it, and to google it. I explained it was a bit hard to do since the laptop was a best buy exclusive, and I done so already.
This was okay, I suspected most people would just buy it it use as is anyway.
Then the guy that helped me with last night, helped me again after I came back from doing something else elsewhere. More standup service from the guy.
So, I made him go to the cage to get a different box since the one out looked like it was opened, and no problem. I get home, open the box for the laptop, pull it out, press power, and nothing. I figured it would have at least a little battery.
Plug it in, get set up and start having some head scratching issues, first it kept saying my password I was trying to create did not match. Finally after about 6 attempts it got it to match. Then captcha kept saying I was putting in the wrong phrase. Did this at least 8 times.
Never mind the fact I had to set up (yet another!) account for microsoft even before I could use the thing. Now it was having issues. Nevertheless, I get it to work. It loads things up, dumps the homescreen. First thing I see is my apps window up and a bunch of `````````````````````````````````````` in the search line. I escape, load up explorer, go to google because, lets face it, I am not using bing, it pops up asking if I want to install google search to the home screen. I tell it yes, then something happens, not sure what, but next thing I know, my screen is white. I press the windows key, it goes back to the main window, then pops up the search with `````````````````````````
then escape then ```````````````````````` then I hit escape then ````````````````````` then I escape, close the thing down, pack it up and return the thing less then 2 hours after I bought it!
I hate making returns.
So, I get this cute girl helping me, she pulls the thing out, I suspect it is not going to make the same behavior there as it did for me. She powers it up and the thing wants a password and I am like !??@$@!
The password I had to set up is a mix of upper, lower case, numbers and symbols, I had set it up like 30 min prior to returning it because of the ``````````````````` problem and I did not exactly remember it.
So now, I am standing there feeling like a total idiot returning something I can't quite remember the password on. Before I could try what I think it was, she says no problem, shuts it off stating they can do a restore on it, then gets my ID and does the return.
Pretty painless.
On the way out, I tell the guy that helped me earlier that I just returned the thing, and he was ready to help me select something else or exchange. I told him this basically ruined me on windows and the lower end devices.
Still, I got to give them props for customer service, something they had been lacking the last few times I had been in there. A new girl there, clearly was interested in working and offered to help while we were browsing.
