Im a fan of Business Calendar, but one feature which all calendar apps seem to lack is being able to categorise and colour events which is something I do on Outlook all the time. I know you can get colours from multiple calendars but I only need one calendar.
 
I've tried tons and the only one I've ever really liked is the calendar widget that comes with Launcher Pro Plus. It's only a couple dollars for the pro version and the calendar is totally worth it.
 
I find the stock calendar on my GS3 is very nice. I like the side tabs the t p opp out that allow switching to a different view (daily, week, etc)
 
My current thoughts on calendars:

I've used many calendar apps for varying lengths of time, and not found a single app that does everything I want (ex-Palm user with a pretty complex set of calendars). I've done a bit of streamlining, with the result that I'm now using "just" 4 calendar-related apps:

Business Calendar: I like the Agenda view (my most-used calendar view) better than other apps, and find event entry good - simple yet detailed. I don't use Month views much anyway, but this one is about the same as most. The distinctive feature, the "week" view with sliding "week" duration, I find provides a nice day view and works well out to 3-4 days, but with my calendar and screen gets a bit cramped when looking at longer periods (so as an actual week view isn't the best for me). But overall this is my most used calendar app.

PimlicalA: very powerful, somewhat retro to look at, the "list" view doesn't work for me (big drawback as the Agenda view is the one I use most). But it's the app if I want to set complex, irregular repeats, so worth it to me for that alone. Also if I want to set a reminder for an event that belongs to an online calendar I don't have write access to, this app does it with no fuss (Business Calendar tells me I can do it if I make a copy, most others just don't offer the option). So while for most things I prefer the look & feel of Business Calendar, I use Pimlical when I need a little more power and flexibility.

Android Pro Widgets: I'm currently using for a scrolling agenda widget (has a month view too, but they don't interest me). I've also used Pure Calendar for a long time, which has the advantage of showing tasks too but I'm finding APW cleaner and more informative for events.

Calendar Snooze: Better reminder management than most calendar apps offer, and works with any calendar app (so no need to worry about how different apps handle notifications).

I also kept Calengoo for a long time, but while I like the way you switch between views and found all of the views OK, I also found that the other apps did the things I cared most about better, and in the end I just wasn't using it. Have never quite clicked with Jorte myself, though many recommend it. And many others I've tried but have only lasted a few minutes.

I still try new calendar apps every now and then though - hoping the find a single app that will do everything. But overall this set works well enough for me: the fact that technically the widget and notifications are handled by different apps doesn't bother me in practice. If something comes out with the power of Pimlical but a proper agenda view and a more modern look and feel I guess my quest will be over, but in the meanwhile I'll still be lurking this thread :)
 
Not sure this is the right place to ask, but I have spent some time looking and there appears to be a good deal of experience of calendar apps on this thread, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently using the standard calendar on my Galaxy S2, and Calendar Snooze, a great app. The calendar does a lot of things but it doesn't show a "blocked out" day very well.

I need a calendar that will sync with Google, in which I can book out an entire day in a way that makes it obvious if I try to put something else in on that day (from it's web site, calengoo appears to do this quite well - do others?).

But I also need it to be able to book out multiple days - a week's holiday for example - a show that in a similar way. Does anyone know of any apps that can do that?

All advice accepted with gratitude. :)
 
Could you work around it by scheduling an appointment that runs from 12:01a to 11:59p? Not ideal, but it's something, if blocking out days is a high priority.

It's not the actual blocking out that is the problem - I can do that - the problem is when I come back later on to put something else in for that day. It is not at all obvious that I already have the whole day scheduled - it doesn't show it graphically the way Business Calendar or Calengoo do.
 
I've tried most of them, as I was a devoted Palm Agendus user for years. Nothing yet comes close, but for me, CalenGoo is the closest I can get.

I was wondering if there's a calendar I can download for my phone that doesn't share personal information. As in, no one has access to it except me. I have the Google calendar built into my Nexus but I think it's really creepy that it connects to the Internet and if Google wants to, they can access the info and modify/add anything. As a result, I've disabled it.

I think there's a way to prevent it from syncing but it's not guaranteed Google doesn't have access to my info/plans.

All the Calendar apps I've looked up require me to give access to personal information so I don't want to download it.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, whether it's for a calendar I can download or ways to prevent access from internet by companies/people.

Haven't read this in a while...settled on Pocket Informant since they developed a widget. It's not as good IMO as the PI I used with PocketPC, but it's the closest I've found so far.

Hi there, I have used Gemini calendar for ages now, free version is sufficient for most needs but I actually bought the pro version just out of appreciation for a great app. You can book appts with start and end dates and state they are all day appts. This shows up in both Gemini calendar and on google calendar when you sign in on your pc. try the free version see if it is what you are after. My favourite thing about Gemini is it has several widgets you can have on your home screen showing different no. of events upcoming. I currently have top part of my home screen showing 8 lines of future appointments, don't need to open calendar or switch between home pages, they are just always there, great for work items. I have tried several other calendar types but I personally prefer this view of my calendar as it is easy to read and always visible. Definitely worth a shot
 
For years I've used Business Calendar by Appgenix, but since shifting to a Samsung S4,I find that the Samsung calendar app pleased me as much or more.

One big change is that month view full page calender widgets work for me on the five inch screen, unlike smaller screens.
