best cheap android tablet

Lurker
Hi all,

I'm looking for a good and cheap android tablet with capacitive display that costs no more than 200$...

I saw for example the BrillianTab that has a good price, does anyone know it?

any other ideas?

many thanks

Most cheap tablets horrifically underperform. Or they have a phone's OS loaded. Which this one does. The processor seems like it would keep up, but don't expect to run tablet apps. It has 2.3 Gingerbread on it, which is a phone OS. 3.x Honeycomb is the tablet OS. So, expect to have some severe limitations with tablet-based apps if you get this.

It's basically a really big phone without the phone capabilities.

Thanks for your response. I'm not interested in a full tablet but I'd like some device with large screen, to listening music, watching movies and surfing on the internet...do you know some cheap tablet that is not horrifically underperform??

thanks

from what you are wanting I would consider a used laptop. I bought a flytouch 3 superpad 2 (Android 2.2) and

I don't know of any cheap tablet that performs well. If you are only going to do movies and music, then yes, that tablet you mentioned will do that fine. But I hope you don't get buyers remorse because you want to use it as a full sized tablet later on.

What do you mean exactly with "full sized tablet"? which are the features I don't have if I buy a cheap tablet? just to know...

thanks again

Something with Honeycomb on it, so that the tablet can utilize tablet apps. Also, you're going to need a pretty good SD card. That tablet (and most cheap tablets) have very little storage space. 4 gigs of internal memory is a very small amount of storage space when you're talking movies. And not just any SD card, either. You'll want at least a class 4 if you want to play movies. I'd suspect at the very minimum, an 8 gig class 4 microSD card. Depends on how much music and movies you intend to carry on it. Oh, and the SD cards you see on eBay are typically counterfeit cards that don't hold the full amount they say, are slower, and break within a month. So, the cheaper you go with memory, the more likely you get a dud.

So, unless you're tethering to a phone and can use streaming services for your movies and music, a cheap tablet may not cut it.

I do have an Archos 70. Paid about $270 for it and the pricing is a lot less now. I do watch videos on it and it works well for that.

It is a little underpowered for some things I find but works well for ereading, music, video, email and web browsing.

The new Kindle Fire is about $200 and might be a good low cost choice.

Kindle Fire is a good device for reading, and that's it. Besides, most services are contracted with Amazon. I hate contracts. Yeah, for budget under 200 bucks, it's a little hard to get a high-end table form top brands. Probably you can take a look at some china tablets.

The majority of sub-$300 tablets being sold these days are usually with poor quality -bad screens and slow processors.
However, here's a list of possible options for you:
Amazon Kindle Fire – $199
Viewsonic ViewBook VB730 – $169
Archos Arnova 10 – $161
SuperPad3 x220 10.2″ Android 2.2 tablet – 186$
Coby KYROS MID7024 – 151$
Velocity Micro T301 Cruz – 150$

cheers

Check out the new Dell Streak on QVC today, I just ordered one.
It's running Honeycomb and will stream Netflix, has a grabby handle bump on one side (high tech term). ;)
16GB internal storage and expandable.

It also comes with an Otterbox case that I *think* they said would serve as a stand.

FYI, if it sells out, the above link will stop working, they remove the item pages.

I have the Coby 7024. Managed to get Market on it, but take anything Market says with a grain of salt. If an app needs phone access or GPS, it usually won't work.
Market says Astro Tools will not work on Coby - I got the APK from an astronomy site and Astro Tools works just fine. (I bought AT originally, it's now free)

I don't have movies on it, but do have some Youtube videos, and they play just fine. I was trying to play some highlights for MLB the other night - the clips would not play. However. interviews with Jim Leyland (Detroit) played well. So either the clip wouldn't play on the mobile site, or it was a different format than the interview.

If you want volume, use earphones.

The screen is resistive, but pretty fast for resistive. I've been doing fine with using finger instead of stylus. I prefer typing on it rather than the capacitive screen phone.

I took it on a trip instead of the laptop, and was pleasantly surprised at how well it did. You do need to keep the charger handy.

I use it as an ebook reader also. With a good SD card it stores quite a lot.

Apparently, it can be rooted, but since I managed market and Gmail, I think I'll leave rooting alone for now.

T-mob is announcing Huawei Springboard 7" honeycomb tablet for $200. Not sure if that will be subsidized price or not. From what I've read, that could be retail, but then again it's coming from T-mob.

A 7" honeycomb tablet for $200 would be awesome, right?

Kindle Fire is truly a great device for reading and browsing online. Actually, that's all. While Many other functions are exclusively available on Amazon, that's really horrible. I hate contracts.

The Tmo Springboard by Huawei is 179.99 with a 2-yr contract. The Huawei MediaPad which is more or less the same box is $440 USD (300 UK).

The Mediapad is a 7in tablet running Android 3.2 Honeycomb. It has a unibody design, measuring 10.5mm thick and weighing 390g, and features a 1280x800 resolution touchscreen, Has both ff and rear cameras 1.3mp and 5mp respectively, weighs in at 390 grams and there will be two versions of it, one with WiFi only and the other with HSPA+ and WiFi.
