best cross platform (iOS/Android) note sharing app?

I have a Galaxy S2, and my wife has an iPhone 3GS.
I want a note sharing app that's available on both devices, so that we can both share notes, todo lists, etc...

I am happy to pay a few dollars for the app, but I don't want to pay a monthly/yearly fee.

I've tried evernote, but I hate the UI, and sharing a notebook (which others can modify) requires $5/mo premium.

I've tried several apps. Unfortunately, some of them are quite deceiving (like Mobisle). They are free, and mention sharing features, but then have ads, and want you to pay a subscription fee for sharing features.
Also, some of the apps that I have tried don't have an iOS version.

I recently started investigating some of these new couples apps. They seem quite interesting. You can only share with one person. (both a pro and a con). Of them, the most interesting is Avocado. The web version seems reasonable, but there's not free trial of the app (It's $2), and reviews are mixed.

Any recommendations?

Google Drive is on iOS now, and you can add collaborators to documents.

You could create a single account and both log in to the that account using evernote, or catch notes or simplenote (although the simplenote apps on android are really ugly)

I believe OneNote allows shared notebooks as well.

Check out Simplenote on the web. It doesn't do anything fancy, just text with tags, but that's what I actually like about it-- to me, notes are text. There are apps for both Android and IOS that could share the same free account. The Android app is Flick Note. There are also free Windows and Mac programs that will sync with it as well.

Very nice, very simple-- almost zen in the old Palm sense.
