A new one came out like last week called Kobo.

I tried it a bit and it's not too bad. I haven't tried any others though.

Thanks Harry but in eBook folder or eBook/Import folder, still not able to import.
Very frustrating...
Thanks anyway.

Little update, figured out that Aldiko can't search the SD card when plugged into your computer. Once I disconnected my X from the computer it was able to find the files.

I have no problem importing to Aldiko but I thought to try Laputa since it also reads epubI wanted to compare readers. I had no trouble locating the import folder on my sd card and I had no trouble finding the import button in the app but nothing happened when I hit it. Anyone know the secret to getting it to work?

Two simple questions
1. What is your favorite E-Book reading app
2. Why is it your favorite?

I am going on vacation in a couple weeks and would love to take some books with me, with out having to carry books with me lol. A good library of free books is appreciated, but I am not opposed to paying a reasonable price for good books.
Laputa book reader would be a better choice for its numorous updated books to download for free.

Got some books/scripts I want to read on the X; how do I use these with the Kindle app or the ereader app? I'm not interested in buying/downloading books so which app should I use? Tried using a file (pdf/lit) with Kindle and had no success.

I found the problem for me, was 2 fold. First it was suggested on Aldiko to download a free book and it creates the first directory. Then create the imports directory under it. Lastly when I had my phone connected as USB mass storage or PC Sync the SD card was unmounted on the phone and the app never saw the files on the card. Once I tried with it disconnected it found them easy.

Can kindle import ebooks you already have on your phone?

Edit: Apparantly not. So its not really a candidate for ebook readers.

All I have are epub books though. Can it import them? I'm always willing to try a new ebook reader.

To use the kindle reader, you will need to either use mobipocket or use calibre on the pc to convert them from epubs to prc or mobi. I think, if you don't have it already, I would simply try Laputa Reader . It reads only epubs. The only problem is that the instructions are not great and you have to find your way around. While it is nice to have a new reader, the Kindle for android is no great shakes, really. Not bad at all (but no search of any kind in this incarnation). By sticking with Aldiko or Laputa
(esp Laputa) you have one of the best readers already. Even though both of those have shortcomings too. Laputa has the coolest page turning feature this side of an iphone ireader (not that we have iphone envy).

I just wish the page turning didn't require a full swipe across the screen. A flicjk would be a nice feature, and also a backwards flick to go back to the previous page.

Not sure which reader you're referring to, but Aldiko has a setting which turns pages by just tapping one side of the screen or the other. Tap on right side for next page, type on left side for previous page.
I only very briefly used the Kindle reader for Android, so I can't really say how this one works. I have over 100 epubs on my phone and imported into Aldiko at this point, so the Kindle isn't really high on my list of readers simply because it doesn't read epubs. I used the Kindle reader on my old ipod touch and liked it a lot there, but for now I'm going to stick with Aldiko, it doesn't everything I need a reader to do.

I love Calibre. I have it on my laptop and my Droid2. It's nice because I can sync my library from my computer to my phone. Ya just download WordPlayer e-book reading app from the Android Marketplace. Then plug your phone into the computer with a USB cable. Calibre should automatically detect the phone and then you can transfer books to it by clicking the Send to Device button. It supports all the major ebook formats & you can find a list of them under "about calibre" on the website: calibre - E-book management

I personnaly like nook for android. There is a huge free library and it seems like i'm getting special offers from B&N every other day for purchase discounts too.

For purchased eBooks, there's 3 main options: eReader, Nook and Kindle. I've got all 3 installed right now. I also had eReader back in my Palm days, and got the Windows Mobile version when I switched to that. However, it seems like eReader is going out of business. Their list of available titles got cut by 2/3's it seems, and most of the eReader books are romance stuff now.

So I needed a new eBook reader that would allow me to read all the current titles, and from my favorite authers and such. Then I installed both Nook and Kindle, but still keeping eReader for my existing books. But with all 3 readers installed - you get to see who's got the best price on a particular book you're interested in. For my current book, B&N had the best price over eReader, and the title wasn't available on Kindle yet. I have to say I'm not very impressed with the Android Nook reader, as I had lots of FC's on my Evo, and there's no word lookup capability. Even with the latest Nook update, I still prefer eReader over Nook. After I'm through with my current book, I'm going to get something from Kindle and see what their Android reader is like.

I'm a Kindle fan just because I now own an actual Kindle. The app on the phone is a great complement to it. I can read on my phone and it syncs my progress to my Kindle and vice versa.
