Help Best/Emulators Compatible With The Xperia Play Control Pad

Could you please let me know which is the best SNES/NES/GBA etc emulator for Android atm - and if controls can be mapped to the Play's control pad?

Also, what's happened to N64oid? Cheers

1. All the oid emulators
2. PCE Emu (great PC Engine emu)
3. Tiger MAME (plays Capcom 1&2, Cave, NeoGeo and Toaplan games roms sets)
4. Both the Amiga and C64 emus are good too

N64 was pulled due to "tech" issues, but the Xs chipset is too slow to play many N64 games well, but Super Mario, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart and Puzzle Bobble run good. Most others are slow on the 8255/8655 and not playable. They all play fast on the Tegra 2 though.

Perfect, thank you :)
Any news on a release date for N64oid? Think it would be posible to optimise it to run decently on the Play? Also is there a version of the last released version I could download anywhere?

The dev says it is due to tech issue with the app (speed is good with dual core, but rough with single core). Not sure what he can do for that.

Others suggest it is some of the code used in the app may cross the line.

Nobody besides the dev really knows. None the less, it you have a dual core device, the final version ran Goldeneye and others very well, that are slow on the Thunderbolt (8655 chip).

I installed Gens (Sega Genesis/Megadrive) emu on my old Hero, but couldn't play anything for more than 5 minutes without a lot of wrong keypresses / fingers covering the screen / Ragequit.

Now i have it on my Play i can hardly put it down.

RoadRash nostalgia FTW !!

If your are familiar with MAME, Tiger MAME plays all Neo Geo and Capcom games at full speed. Fun on my Incredible, but probably 100 times better with game pad. Metal Slug series and all the fight games would rock.

I work for DroidGamers.com and had a conversation with Yongzh about his emulator. He said it was a tech issue that made him pull it down, but he was notified it would be taken down anyway because of some code he used that he shouldn't have been charging for.

He also claims that since he will be putting the emulator back up using the same ID he originally used, that those of us who paid for it will not have to pay for it again, it will just pop up as an update when it goes live. Also, he said it could take anywhere from 2-3 months for the new version to go live.

Has anyone had any luck running psx4droid on the Xplay?
I installed it today & put on Resident Evil directors cut but all I'm getting is a black screen then return to rom list.

Yes, I loaded the bios & unecm'd the file.

Cheers for any help.

Not tried PSX4droid, but I've been playing Resident Evil Directors Cut on Fpse and aside from an occasional sound glitch it runs perfectly.

Yeah, I switched to fpse & not had any problems with it.
Terrible sound on pro skater 4 though.

Check your PM's please Hordriss.

The good thing about psx4droid is it plays all formats including eboots, which take up a fraction of the space.

I was a huge supporter of PSX4Droid through the initial launch of the emulator but then he neglected the app for over four months without updating at all. During that same time, my iPod Touch version of his emulator got six reviews. At that point it seemed like he just didn't care about the Android gamers and then he pulled the stunt where he launched another version of his emulator and asked for money for it again.

Glad he has it free for now but I just can not recommend it over FPse at all. This phone, should be able to handle most games played via the FPse emulator but if not, you should be able to overclock the device and push it a bit to get everything running smoothly. I haven't ran into a game on it that I can not run smoothly on my Droid X overclocked to 1.25ghz.

FPse is nice for games, but the ability to put at least four times more games in the same space is compelling to me with PSX4droid:

1. Raiden Project = 20mb
2. Dead or Alive = 20mb
3. Crash Racing = 130mb
4: KOF 2000 = 70mb
5. Hotshots Golf 2 170mb

Just a few examples that take a fraction of the space. It would ROCK if FPse would update to support eBoots :)

You have an iPod version of PSX? Wild how the A4 chipset still bests the 8255/8655. The A4 is an efficient piece of silicon :)

Yeah. Until I get my 32gb card it's killing me holding a few psx games but i just couldn't get psx4droid v2 or v3 to run anything.

My best luck is v1, 1.5. That was the fastest version, but the sound is scratchy in a lot of games. v2 plays a LOT slower and v3 does not play many games at all.

Using v1 1.5 on my Inc 1, Dead or Alive plays about half speed, but plays full speed on my gTablet.

Anyone try Dead or Alive with FPse using the X Play? If full speed with sound, that would be a big improvement over the Inc.

When mine comes in I will let you know how it runs with that game but I wholly agree on PSX4Droid that 1.5 was also the best version for me on both my original Motorola Droid and my Motorola Droid X.

Thanks!

Games I covet and would love to play as good as possible- with a d-pad :)

1. Crash Racing (smooth on Inc and gTablet)
2. Raiden Project (smooth on Inc and gTablet)
3. Dead or Alive (smooth on gTablet)
4. Hotshots 1 & 2 (smooth on Inc and gTablet)
5. Tobal 2 (smooth on gTablet)
6. Dead or Alive (smooth on gTablet)

That is with v1 1.5. Most except Raiden Project either do not work or are sloooow on v2 and v3.

can someone explain how to map the physical buttons for PCE.Emu ? I didn't find how to do it.
Also I didn't manage to run Metal Slug on Tiger MAME. Did someone tried it ?

To answer the first question, I'm very happy with FPse for the PSone, Gensoid for the Megadrive, SNESoid for SNES, and gameboid for the GA.

All six available Metal Slug games work with Tiger MAME on my Incredible and gTablet. In fact, every single Neo Geo, Capcom 1 & 2 and Cave game plays perfectly smooth with sound on my non-overclocked Incredible :)

I for the love of God can not play KOF 2000 with Tiger MAME. Any help?

Just tested on my Incredible and works fine, but that rom and other larger ones can take well over 30 seconds to load up. I thought quite a few were not working, until I noticed this.

The best rom set to get the roms working is the Raine emu rom set. Raine seems to be the emu the dev used to convert to Android. The reason I think this, is the entire Raine rom set works on TigerArcade, but finding MAME rom sets that works was very hit & miss (more miss).

Raine was a smart decision by the dev, since is far more efficient than MAME, since the focus is a few platforms that results in less overhead for operation. TigerArcade is easily the best arcade emulator on any mobile platform.

Just wish it scaled correctly with Honeycomb :( Works great with my Incredible and gTablet, but a small window on my Iconia :(

I bet the Metal Slug series and the KOF series rock real hard with the Play's gamepad :)

i got all the kof series from 94-2003 working all apart from 2000, i think i ned to find a better rom. Got snk vs capcom plus working aswell, yes the metal slug series is brilliant on the play!!

Well, I tried it on Archos 70. Probably the mediocre RAM amount is not enough for KOF 2002......

That is probably it. Archos 101 has the same issues and so does the Droid 1 (all have 256mb ram).

I have a complete Raine rom set and every Neo Geo, Capcom 1 & 2 and Cave game works perfectly (well, they would with a gamepad). I have gotten used to the virtual pad, but no comparison to real controls :(

The nice thing about the gTablet is the controls are mostly off the game screen and are in the borders (If you chose "scale" and bottom for controls it works out this way). The 10" display results in plenty of screen still, in spite of the borders on left, right and bottom (no border on top). TigerArcade does NOT scale correctly with Honeycomb (hope the dev updates).

added:

KOF 2002 and 2003 play great (takes over 30 seconds to start up) with sound on the Incredible :)
