Best fitting audio file format in Android

Can someone tell me which audio file format best suits Android apps. I had prepared a wave file (.wav), but didn't get clarity on the audio. I am wondering if it could be an issue with my Wave file recording.

What file format does Samsung Galaxy stores an audio file originally inside?
