Best grocery list app?

My wife found this app called "GrocerySmart". I really like it a lot. have been using it for about 4 months now. Easy to use, once you get the hang of how it works.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.handmark.grocerysmart&hl=en

Pros.
1) Sync between devices
2) Online sync and the ability to edit/create list on website.
3) You can use the stock listed items or create your own
4) Can edit items w/o deleting
5) Can have as many different list as you like. (And you can share pick which list to share.)
6) Instant syncing when editing list.
7) Items are no longer showed when you check them off.
8) Different categories
9) Can totally customize each item and its category
10) Can save all your rewards/loyalty cards. (Can scan or input info.)

Cons.
1) No way to turn off auto sync. This is a pain when in a store with a weak signal and is a battery drainer.
2) Need to be able to deactivate the "Empty List" and "Uncheck All" buttons. (So you don't accidentally hit them.)
3) No SD card or internal storage back up.

Feel free to try mine out as well -- Shopriant. I just put out a new push-notification version today for almost-instant updates. I also want to know how it can be improved, etc.

The name of the app is really important.
Shopriant is a terrible name imo. It is hard for people to spell/say. So if I were to suggest it to someone they would be :confused::confused:

You need an app name that is easy to say

What is so difficult about Shopriant...I pronounce it Shaw-pri-ant, pretty straight forward in my opinion.

Anyway functionality is more important than the name and overall it is pretty good. Just wish it came with a master list to pick items off of that I could add to.

I am using Out of Milk app. I absolutely love it! You pay a little money up front ($5) and you can have anyone update the list online to sync to your phone. It also allows you to have a 'pantry list' - This is my fav part - I know what I have at home at all times! Also, its great for people on a budget as you can enter in the prices of the items and it will save them for future use.

Out of Milk totally rocks. You can share lists (choosing on a list by list basis) with others...when anyone adds something to the list, it immediately pushes it to the others sharing the list. It rocks when shopping with someone because you can go in different areas of the store and it will cross off items in real time so you can see what your spouse/partner/best friend, etc has already picked up and what else still needs getting. My DH likes something easy to work with that "just works" and this fits perfectly. Getting setup, I wanted to import my google task lists and when I emailed for assistance the developer himself would respond within minutes to a few hours and was always helpful, upbeat and responded EVERY single time (which was 5 or 6 by the time all my questions were answered). He also promised that if it didn't work as they said between our phones, he would refund the purchase price despite the (ridiculous) 15minute restriction in Google Play/Android Market. They are working on a lot of updates but you can also add items via their website which is great that it isn't an phone/tab only interface. You can add to do lists, inventory your pantry so you can more easily tell when you're running out of items, you can add prices if you choose so you know in advance what the shopping trip will cost. I have added to do lists (also can share or not as you choose), wish lists and it works great. (no, I have NO affiliation with the app except that I FINALLY found one that works how I wanted after years of searching).

+1! Our Groceries is fantastic. It also has a web version so you can use it from PCs, iPads, whatever.

Hi. Please forgive my lack of tech savvy but I am looking for an app that will let me make a list of things to do, including a grocery list, and will sync that data between my PC and my Android phone. I have an HTC Detail and I want the app to show as an icon on my PC's Desktop. I find it easier to type on my PC but I want what I type to sync to my HTC. If I find/install "Our Groceries," will it put an icon on my PC's Desktop? Can I install it on my PC and will it automatically sync to my HTC? I don't want an app that will only work on my phone. I tried Gmail Tasks but it doesn't work most of that time and I have gone back to just typing a list on an OpenOffice document on my PC and then printing it out. Not very efficient.
Any direction would be very much appreciated. I am not a geek. Thanks so much.

I'm sorry no one has replied to this before. The answer to both questions is Yes.
On your PC you access OurGroceries through your web browser (Internet Explorer, or whatever), so you can put an icon on your desktop just as you can with any web page. (Using Internet Explorer I think you do this by navigating to the OurGroceries web page, then arranging the IE window so that you can see part of the desktop behind it, then dragging the Internet Explorer curly e symbol from the address bar onto the desktop to create a shortcut to that web page.)
To get OurGroceries to sync with my Android phone I first of all downloaded the app to my phone and used the Menu->Settings->"List sharing" option to notify OurGroceries of my email address. They then sent me two emails; one with a link to click to confirm the email address was valid and another with an initial password (which can, of course, be changed.). I then logged in on my PC, entering the email address and password, and immediately I could see the shopping list from my phone.
OurGroceries works by storing all the shopping list information "in the cloud" and synchronising everything that is entered either on a PC or on a phone with what is stored on their web server computer.

Are there any free grocery apps that allow for prices to be added/gives a running total? Does 'Out of Milk' do this?

The one thing I am after is a place that allows me to mark for a coupon. When I make my grocery list we use coupons to get the basics. I would like to be able to have a way to know if I have the coupon or something to that effect. I am going to try your app to see how it works. Thanks

Out of Milk tracks coupons, can apply sales tax and mark tax-free items.

If you just want to make grocery list and you are a Cozi user, you can do it there too and it will sync it with you better half's phone. So IMO, if you just want a 'list' app, I guess there are tons, even as simple as Notes would work.

BUT

To be very precise about groceries, my approach is little different, an idea, if anybody wishes to capitalize on it. The requirements/features are as follows -
- App can get product information by reading a barcode.
- Makes a database of groceries already in your storage.
- Gives user an option to record the price paid for the product and rating. In this economy, it makes sure that the user gets cheapest possible price. (I apologize to those who work in supermarkets) and they don't buy the product again that they didn't like in the first place. This has happened with me a few times. I always try new ice cream flavors. Once bought Pistachios and felt like eating a chemical factory !! So when user scans product in the store, a pop up shows up telling the price paid for the quantity and its rating by the user.
- When the product stock at home is over, you just add it to 'the list'.
- There is also an option for the user to make a master list of their choice (for fruits, veggies and similar stuff), from which they can add stuff to their 'to buy list'.
- It offers an option to sync it with google drive or something which eventually can be synced to DW's phone.
- If there is any free database of coupons, it will be great if the app can attach itself to that database and can pull the coupons as per your list. I never use coupons but to those who use it, it will be a great option so that they can print them.

If there is already such an app, I would love to know.
If not and anybody wants to build an app, feel free to use this idea.

Ok, am starting out with the free ones..trying them out
But all are a pain to use. or maybe I am just stupid.

I just do not get how to use them. Not user friendly for me
Will give it a few more days of trying them out

Where are the instructions for those apps?

Am trying ..out of milk, grocery iQ, emyshoppinglist, and grocery Smart

Try "Shopping Buddy":

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sevencoins.shoppingbuddy

Currently Android-only. I am trying to find time to finish an iOS version.

Main focus of Shopping Buddy:

- Simplicity. You won't find any complex database functions in this app. It is built to replace shared pieces of paper which is frequently misplaced.

- Syncs to the cloud. Multiple persons can share and update the same list. May be handy for a solo user with multiple devices.

- Supports attachment of photo to each item (which is also synced). This is useful for product identification, price verification, imaging a paper coupon etc.

- Supports Twitter-like hashtags for categorizing items. Familiar, flexible and lets you categorize an item under multiple categories.

- Price-free and ad-free, and will remain so, I promise :D

Would be glad to test but seems it's not compatible with jb (yet)?

How's it not compatible with Jelly Bean?

I am running it on Nexus S with JB update. All OK so far.

It has also been tested on emulated devices all the way back to Eclairs!

Probably worth mentioning too, in case you missed it. I'm from Belgium.
So possibly a region thing?
Gl troubleshooting :)
