Root Best modification option for me?

I'm a very adamant person when it comes to fixing software issues instead of returning a phone.

So, I'm getting reboots mostly when I'm fluctuating from 4G to 3G. It also reboots during sleep mode when 4G is on. It's rebooted once during fluctuations from 3G to 1x.

I've also noticed it won't reboot when on charge. That must mean the settings are different somehow right?

Do I have any options I can control? Do I have to return it?.... >_<

Are you on a stock ROM or a custom ROM?

If you're on the stock ROM, most of the random reboots (in my experience) are fixed by wiping the caches (dalvik and /cache partition) and maybe the /data partition. Try the caches first, and if it still reboots, try wiping the caches and /data.

If it still reboots, flash the stock ROM posted by jmz, or try a custom ROM.

If it's a custom ROM, go repeat the same thing, but also try a different custom ROM or the Stock ROM. Some phones don't get along with all ROMs. My phone does not like MeanROM at all and will reboot/freeze randomly. It works fine with ZR3D. (Note that these are still Evo 3D ROMs so if you flash, you'll lose MMS).

If you flashed the SU patch in the newbie guide, download and flash the full stock ROM, it might help, as well.

I am on stock. You said wipe data/cache? Do you think it's possible they didn't wipe the cache when putting the new software for VM?

I'll likely be getting into this more once I'm not at work.

Thanks!

They should have factory reset it before shipping to you, which should clear out the dalvik cache and the /cache partition. That's why the first boot after clearing the caches takes 5-10 minutes.

But sometimes the caches need to be cleared out. However, if you're going to back up and do a data partition wipe along with the cache partition, you might as well go the whole way and reflash the stock ROM that jmz posted. The odex version would probably be the one you want. Make a nandroid backup before you do anything, of course, and then wipe caches, data, and flash the stock ROM. Just remember to use fastboot if you do not have 4EXT installed.

In the Evo 3D section, we saw a lot of people have random reboots until they factory reset, too. So it might be some erroneous app or something funky in the cache. From personal experience, it was something in the cache, though.

sept are you rooted and running the jmz's shooter rom? if not rooted yet, i would try factory reset, it seemed to clear up some issues for me, if rooted then disregard

Did factory reset. Nothing. It's still rebooting. I can't help but still feel like this is a software bug. Hopefully me sending this report to HTC will get an OTA eventually.

If a lot of us are having this exact same problem, I don't think it's hardware related. I feel that they rushed this phone, That's why It's so buggy. For one, It originally came without ICS and Sense 3.6. For two, It had Sprint software.

A lot of people returned the Motorola Atrix in the beginning because of massive reboots. Turns out that just a month or so later they sent a patch. Problem was solved.

I'm going to sit tight for now. I have 30 days to return this.

Yeah was planning to ride out the thirty before I even rooted just in case mine started acting up in any way again, don't I remember you having a sensitive power button? Did you remedy that?

My suggested next step would be to either try re-flashing the Stock ROM or the RUU. Flashing the RUU will not break any warranties, because it's signed by HTC.

I had to exchange it. I couldn't even keep it on. It would reboot before I could even bring up a webpage.

I've got this new one and I'm keeping my fingers crossed here...

As soon as I leave my work 4G gets spotty. I'm going to keep it on to see if it'll reboot...

Make sure to get back to us!

So far so good. No reboots, this phone doesn't seem to have a power button issue either. Signal fluctuations are minor as well.

Not jinxing myself here but this phone has given me no problems.

If it stays good, I'll be exploring this weekend with modifications.
