Best Music Apps?

Can someone recomend a good app that can download hi-res lossless audio? Or flac over mp3?

The main reason I got the V30 was because I want the best audio quality possible in a smartphone. But I don't want to download some generic music downloader, I want to fully take advantage of that 32 bit hi fi quad dac.

I have Tidal for streaming but I also want to be able to download hi res files.

The ONLY app that can use the ES9218P DAC in the V30 to its full potential is the stock LG music app. No other app can send DSD unconverted, No other app can send PCM > 192khz undecimated. No other app can unfold MQA. Most other apps either convert, decimate or don't even make use of the ES9218P DAC in the V30.

There are very few sites that sell ACTUAL high-resolution audio RECORDINGS. Most are standard or below standard resolution recordings digitized into high-resolution container files. You get charged for lots of extra zeros to fill the container.

AiX Records, 2L Records and Naxos are a few that actually sell high-resolution recordings. If you want to download and try some real high-resolution recordings for free, see:

I just don’t get the full sound or detail let alone the punch or volume I get with my iPhone 6s with an Audioquest Dragonfly amp. Not even close. Really wanted the LG V30 to be the ONE!

Of course the iPhone 6S was the last one to have a headphone jack back in 2015. Anything more recent from Apple, you're NOT going to be able to use your fancy amp with it. Enjoy those "AirPods" :p

The Dragonfly is a USB DAC+amp combo. Headphone jack is irrelevant - I have one which I use with my Pixel 2.

If course it outperforms a phone's internal DAC - it also costs a lot more than any phone manufacturer spends on the audio system.

USB Audio Player Pro has recently added support for the V30's internal DAC (including MQA, so post 4 is now out of date). May be worth a try.

I don’t use my headphone jack now if I’m using my AQ amp dac. But even plugging headphones into my 6s sound better to my ears than the quad in the LG. I was really hoping for this phone to replace the 6. But I’m going to try USB Audio Pro and report back. Just a pain to have to work around what was hyped to be the answer

It's always that way until you rip physical media at the standard you select. If a CD has two songs you like buy it and rip all tracks to what sounds best on your phone. Just my opinion.

I read somewhere that Apple is one of a couple places to get high quality music. If it's played through a non Apple device, is the file itself degraded? Possibly due to some native coding?

No, there's nothing special about the coding of Apple music. iTunes music uses AAC rather than MP3, but those are just 2 different audio codings: both are lossy codecs which can apply different levels of compression depending on what balance of size vs quality you prefer, but for a given file size the newer (though far from new!) AAC does a bit better than MP3. And AAC is not a proprietary Apple coding (in fact Apple weren't even one of the consortium of companies that developed it), so there's no problem with playback on non-Apple devices.

You may still find old articles telling you how to strip DRM from it, but iTunes music has been DRM-free for many years so unless you have some very old files that stuff is irrelevant now.

And you can get higher quality than Apple sell. The question is whether you need higher quality, and whether you can find what you want at that quality (assuming you don't want to buy CDs and convert them to the format of your choice at whatever quality level you desire).

I finally bought a 3.5mm adapter to plug in tricking the phone to play louder. Some twerking of the sound options and it is beating the iPhone! Took alot of trial and error but enjoying the music playback.

What about the USB Audio Player Pro? Have you taken a look at that player?
