I just bought a BT dongle off eBay for like $5 shipped but for whatever reason, I cannot get the PDA Net BT Dun option to work at all. :(
 
Running Easy Tether on my Captivate. Normal download speed is between 1.5 and 2.0mb. Yesterday, when I ran Speedtest, I got 3.0mb from two different servers. It is my understanding the the fastest download speed I can get with a bluetooth connection is 0.8mb(800kb). I assume if I set up a hotspot I would still get the faster download speeds. Right?

I bought EasyTether. I tried out the free versions of both PDANet and EasyTether...EasyTether consistently gave me faster upload/download speeds. Don't know if it's just me or if EasyTether has a more efficient data transfer mechanism??

here we go again.... spouting off the tired rhetoric of "don't abuse the unlimited feature because maybe, your carrier will get mad"

please to be posting a link to a story where someone was charged extra, from any carrier, for going over the cap on a droid phone. or a scanned bill (personal info blocked out of course) that shows a carrier charging..... I mean, you obviously wouldn't make such a statement based off of hearsay now would you? Surely you have proof to back up your statement, right?

I've been using easytether lite, which just expired. I loved it until it did that. :p At any rate, after reading this thread I think I will pay the $9.99 and keep tethering as I have been.

Side note: I don't know if they charge you extra or not, but I had been tethering with my friends BB, also through t-mobile, and he was rate limited by them.

He got a text stating... and I quote -

"Free T-Mobile msg: Your usage has reached the data threshold for your rate plan this month. Your speed has been reduced for the rest of this billing period."

As for further charges, like I said before we're not sure if there are any, but they did limit him, his tether is now even slower than dial-up... ew! :eek:

With T-Mobile you have unlimited usage on the phone..However, there's a 5 gig limit for tethering...

my sprint EPIC has this feature but since I didn't turn it on, it doesn't work - so perhaps you do have a feature that some of us don't!

In order to use the Hotspot on the Epic you have to pay $29.99 a month, otherwise you'll get an error 67 if you tether and a 'page could not be displayed' if you use the wifi.
 
I used Easy Tethering for a short period of time between the "update" and FroYo. I was very pleased with it. I set it up so it automatically connected to the internet whenever the USB cable was plugged in. It connected very fast. I don't know that it improved the speed, but I was very happy with the download and upload performance.
 
Here in Canada with Rogers I use Proxoid and then turn on the portable hotspot feature for wireless tethering.
