Best Notification App?

Can anyone recommend a good notification app? I want something that will hopefully pop up a nice sized alert on the home screen when I have a missed call/email etc. The blind-style notification on the phone isn't helpful.

If anyone is interested, the free app called "missed reminder" does exactly what I was hoping. In addition to other things, it can put a nice sized alert on the lock screen if you have a missed call, new message, new vm, etc. totally customizable, too.

I downloaded this app and set it up. When I run a test it works fine, but when I get a call or message it keeps using the default notification. Do you have to disable the notification program that comes with the phone.
