Based on recommendations I bit the bullet and bought Doggcatcher. So far I really like it. The best thing was all the feeds I wanted were there for just hitting "add feed". Now the real test will come when I get near my wifi connection after work and overnight to see what it actually downloads.. But it better than anythign else I've tried the last few days.

Best podcatcher (podcast) app?

Either uninstall the other programs or go to manage applications and clear defaults for reader and listen
I was looking for a podcast and stubled on this forum, i have used carcast for a long time and love it. and am only looking now for a new one to see if anything is better. It autodownloads at a time u allocate, holds the order i which u have listened , has huge buttons for ease of use...a record button to record anything in your car ie police conversation when being booked. but is free. Any experts if u try it could u compare it and c how it rates to the purchased ones?

You absolutely want Beyondpod. Apart from being very good just as an app, the service is unmatched. I joined the beta program and can honestly say I haven't seen any of the commercial apps provide anything like the same service. If you have a problem or a clever idea, you can almost always get an update that has the requested changes within a day or two.

I still haven't found a podcatcher that suits me on my phone yet. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I don't really like letting software do my syncing for me, since I like control over what I've got on my device. I'd like something where I can download podcasts on my PC and just copy them across to my SD card in Windows Explorer, point a podcatcher at a directory and have it read the ID3 information and organise the files into podcasts. Any suggestions?
I'm currently using DoubleTwist and its desktop client but it's not ideal (although if it properly recognised manually copied files instead of treating them as "other podcast" I'd be very happy with it).

I need a simple player that provides a way to:
- List Recently Downloaded podcasts in latest to oldest order;
-- Flags them as:
--- Not listened to yet
--- Listened to but not finished
--- Already listened to
- Has a simple way to toggle from Podcasts to Music, and back
The stock Nokia music player on my E71 did that and I'm very used to that kind of efficiency.
I listen to podcasts walking to the bus, then music as I read on the bus, then podcasts as I walk to the office. Same thing when I go for coffee it's podcasts, then sit down and do some reading listening to music, then back to the office listening to podcasts.
Is there any app out there which covers all of these?
I have BeyondPod and can't see that it does these things.

1. Remembers my place, and has a corresponding Chrome or web app that syncs, and when I play it at home or work computer, it picks up seamlessly where I was on my phone (and vice versa).
2. Allows me to set a "program" of which podcasts I listen to, and in what order.
3. Allows me to go through the day, listening to the 4 or 5 podcasts I chose, and play them at home, car, and work without ever having to do anything but hit "play" and "pause."
Anybody found any of these features? At least the one where it remembers my place between phone and web browser?

Check out Podax, it will sync between devices using gpodder.
I didn't care for it myself though.
Doggcatcher is developing the sync according to their forum.
I'm using the free version of BeyondPod right now but I will probably jump to Doggcatcher for the sync when it comes.

I'm no expert, but I just tried CarCast against DogCatcher.
Seems to me like they are both valid approaches: minimalist, simple in the case of CarCast and full-featured but significant learning curve for DogCatcher.
I stuck with DogCatcher.
A big factor for me was the way CarCast lumps all the downloaded files into a single list - whereas DogCatcher segregates them by feed and allows building a play list where you mix them as desired.
OTOH, adding a podcast to a DogCatcher play list involves too many actions for my taste.... but that's small change in the context of it's many features.
Bottom line, I would advise anybody that's looking to try DogCatcher.... and give it a little time until you dope out the UI. It's not totally intuitive, but once I caught on all the functionality was there.
I tried Doggcatcher but I found it difficult to find very old episodes of podcasts that I'm interested in. I like using podcasts to learn new languages and I need to start at the beginning and play those episodes repeatedly.
I recently found Kiescast which did a better job of syncing with the older episodes that I had downloaded view the desktop version of Kies, but I've since upgraded to Jellybean and Kiescast crashing on Jellybean.
The best Podcast player I've seen is the native one in iOS 6, I'd really love to see something like that for Android.

I guess it depends on the requirements.
After making the mistake of "Upgrading" to IOS6, I went ballistic when I saw that they'd separated podcasts into their own app.
For one, it took away the ability to create a playlist of podcasts - which I was in the habit of doing before taking a 2-3 hour trip.
The whole thing smacked to me of a new direction at Apple: doing things for marketing reasons without insisting on a corresonding improvement in the user experience.
FWIW, I recently discovered that once one deletes the "PodCast" app the "Music" app resumes it's role in managing/presenting podcasts.
I also went ballastic when I upgraded to iOS6, but it was because they removed the Youtube app. I don't use playlists, so it bother me, I actually found it more convenient to switch between the catalog and the library in the stand alone app.
I'm glad you figured out how to get it back to the way wanted it.
Well, I'm stuck now because my wife wants the iPad for herself, and i don't know of anything on Android that can compare in terms of a Podcast app.
