Root best rom for 7 year old

Lurker
After 3+ years of service on my Eris I have finally upgraded to a RAZR MAXX. I cleaned off the Eris and it's very responsive (should have done that a long time ago just to speed it up). It's running 2.1 and I am wondering if there's any advantage to going to Gingerbread for games and if so is there a specific rom that is optimized for this phone? I assumed that it was too slow for most games like Temple Run but I'd like to get whatever I can on it for my daughter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's hard to answer that completely - it would be a very subjective answer. I do like the CM7 ROMs (GSB and Condemned Soul's CM7 are the two that I have tried; they are both good.)

CondemnedSoul has also written something that disables the phone radio, so any ROM can be WiFi only.

As for performance - this is an Eris. Even with an overclocked ROM, I wouldn't expect miracles.

[ROM][03/24/2012] GSB v4.5 - Final | CM7.2 | It's been a great ride... - xda-developers
[ROM] 2/18/12 Condemned CM 7.2 V23 (2.3.7) R.I.P. - xda-developers
[Script] WiFi Only (great for inactive devices) - xda-developers

Seeing that you are discussing about custom Roms, I will move this to the rooted section

tdandroid - was your root successful?

I'm doing the same thing with my wife's old Eris and giving it to my 8 yr old.

I've yet to start and am open to ANY advice from you, doogald, or others on the EASIEST way for me to achieve this process.

From what I've read, I think I'm going to use CM7 ROM and xtrSENSE 5.0.1 (not sure if this is newest or best). Now I just have to figure out hte process.

It might be a bit laggy. If her friends compare it to something a year newer, it might look awful. Just my opinion. XTR, both Sense And ROM (almost Vanilla), are a lot more responsive even if they do appear a bit dated.
