im considering using my phone as a sat nav can anyone recommend what app i should purchase i know there is one on the phone is that good enough?

will i need a connection the whole time or is it gps?

thanks

Used both copilot and navigon, currently sticking to latter.both don't require data only GPS. Google got me lost the other week so not that impressed, can download 10 mile radius in advance but otherwise will require data.

so its better to pay for an outside app then? the one installed says i can have premium navigation for 29.99 i think but dont know if its any good

think you need to bear in mind that the DHD can be shocking at getting a GPS signal... mine just doesn't seem to want to!

Once you are used to Navigon or CoPilot, you won't drive with this stock Navigation ;)

do not ever go with the navigation offering on the DHD, doesnt search by post codes (if in the UK) so stick with co-pilot

thanks everyone heres hoping it all works out anyone else had problems getting a gps signal whilst driving?

and does co pilot or navigon have updated maps and camera alerts or do u have to get those separately

With Navigon I got a map update.
With CoPilot I got an update, but I don't remember whether it was also a map update.

Both apps have build-in speed cams info.

thanks harry and do the update regularly for new cameras?

I did not look for because I have to uninstall speed cams :(
In my country the police confiscates phones with speed cams.

But as I know, for the to add the latest speed cam info you have to purchase it as Point of Interest (POI). For both apps.

I did have Nav Free (search same in Google Play). As the name suggests, its free but you wouldn't think it to see the screenshots and to use it...

Never had an issue with it and all the maps, postcode search etc all downloadable to your phone.

Pretty large file sizes so if you go for this, be sure to download over WiFi...

Was really useful and don't have it now because I've recently wiped my phone but will probably.put it back on soon...

Hope this helps...

I've tried a few in the past and have stuck with Co Pilot even transferred it over to my N4. Only difference being the N4 has far better GPS than the DHD. I'm sure the safety/speed cameras are a free update on co pilot but you manually have to update them yourself. Another good feature of the app is ActiveTraffic. You so should get it free for 1 year but its useful in peak times when the traffic is heavy etc and can re route your destination for you.

I just use Google Maps. It got me all the way from Aberdeen to Cardiff. Can be slow getting GPS and the app crashed a few times wish can be annoying when you are driving in an unknown area, but can't complain for it being free
