Best setup for Controller Gaming on N7

I'm trying to turn my N7 into the a retro gaming system complete with a controller. Can anyone give me a rundown of the "ideal" setup to allow playing of both Play Store games and emulator games (all of which I own hard copies of) with a controller?

Here are my thoughts so far: I've heard that PS3 controllers can connect via bluetooth. I have a 360 and a Wii, so that's out of the question. I also understand that Wii controllers can connect to Android devices, but those lack enough buttons for some games. Xbox 360 controllers would be ideal, and I believe I read that via root and OTG, a wired 360 controller can be used.

If I could use a 360 controller without hassle, that would be great. A wireless option would be best, but I'd prefer not to buy another $30+ controller.

Next comes the problem of button mapping. Is this an easy process? Is it game by game, or can it be set at the top-level setting of a given emulator?

Is there anything else I need to know to get this off the ground? Main point of interest are controller compatibility, best OTG cable to buy if necessary, and button mapping.

Thanks!

First, you shouldn't need to root to use a wired 360 controller. You just need an adapter to plug them in that are like $1 on Amazon. That's what I did with mine and it worked great. As far as button mapping, that varies.
On some games (Dead Trigger) I've been able to customize them however I want and it works great.
Other games (GTA3) the controller works, but I haven't been able to change the stock configuration with mine.
Not sure what emulators you want to run, but in my experience, N64 emulators allow you to configure the controller, but for me none have recognized my 360 trigger buttons. I've tried three different emulators, tried them all on my tablet and Galaxy S3, and nothing doing.
And yes, mapping for one emulator will set that configurations for every game you run within.

Hope that helps.

Great, thanks for the info.

I'd be looking to run N64, GBA, SNES and possibly PSX emulators with that controller. Anything I should know about any of those?

If you really want to do this right, you need to root the Nex7, then down the app sixaxis controller, BT pair your Xbox controller to the app. Then you'll want to open a game like Modern Combat or a SNES game like super punch out and take a screen shot. Go back into sixaxis and in the settings menu click on touch emulation and insert your screen shot, rotate via edit, add buttons to appropriate spot on the screen. Save map. Select new map on sixaxis main screen and play.
(Please note, I have not attempted this with an Xbox controller, I use a PS3 controller.)

I'm not sure this will work since Xbox 360 controllers are not bluetooth, but rather a proprietary wireless technology. The only way I've seen to use a wireless 360 controller is to use OTG with a wireless adapter, which is pointless to me since I already have a wired controller. I'll give this controller a shot and come back with any questions. Appreciate the help guys.

Alright I have the play pad pro for nexus 7 and I'm looking to see if anyone else has this product and help me out to how do control setting for dead trigger. Asphalt 7. Metal slug 3. The dark night rises. NOVA 3. And more games if you have any other games and is not in this list I would like for you to post the control settings. Using nyko playground keeps crashing but doing settings is hard and sometimes doesn't respond while playing the game. So if you have this figured out I would be glad you help me out. Thanks again for reading this post.
