best Skype app?

That may well be so, but a lot of people around the world (outside the Android faithful) are on Skype and don't even know of Google's voice services. That's why most of us use Skype. :banghead:
 
There is actually a Skype for verizon app that is complete junk. The regular Skype app in play store is good. Tango is an option that I didn't like.

What is the difference with the Verizon app vs. straight up skype? I am in the market for my first android phone, considering VZW, and Skypeability is a pre-requisite!

I couldn't get Skype for verizon to work BUT I just downloaded the regular Skype app and it works fine.
 
Well Skype is the name of the one company. But I'm guessing you mean what is the best video chatting app? If so, I like Tango. It's cross platform and uses phone numbers as "usernames". So everyone in your contacts who uses it is automatically put in your contacts list in Tango.

I think the Verizon version uses minutes, while the true Skype one is just data. So go with the plain Skype version.
