Best strategy for WM6 to Android migration

Been running WM6 on Verizon Samsung Omnia II since it was out. My work environment is pushing me towards using Android. I am off contract and can move at any time - Verizon Samsung Charge is available at $0 if I do.

1. I would like to be able to wait for the S III; I am already on an unlimited data contract, and obviously would like to keep it. I don't think I have the time to ensure I get grandfathered in if I wait for the S III, so I'm having to deal with the upgrade question earlier than I would otherwise. Any observations on timing considerations would be appreciated.

2. I have different universes when dealing with my current gmail contact list and my phone contact list. There are people on the gmail list that I'd never call. I am concerned about "mixing" the contact lists. Is that a problem?

3. Is there a "best" way to migrate to Android? I've read that some don't use their primary gmail address and want to know why.

Thanks for any guidance. Being leery of a Jun 1 end to grandfathered unlimited data, I'm looking to make this move by Thursday.

Welcome to the Android world! I've used a WinMo phone in the past and know the pain it causes.
First, I wouldn't recommend the Charge even if it is free. It's just a dated phone (though there are plenty of people still devoted to it). The Moto Droid Bionic is now free also and it's a great phone. Who knows if or when the S3 will come to VZW so I wouldn't hold out just for it. I also think the Razr and Rezound are pretty cheap now so I'd consider those.

For contact syncing, you can set up with your phone to only sync those on your phone or all your contacts from your Gmail account so it's not so cluttered.
You need to attach a Google account to your phone. You certainly don't have to use it as your primary but with the way everything is integrated (contacts, calender events and now Google Drive), it's something worth considering.

1. Another option to the SIII is the HTC One X. It has worse battery life and somewhat weaker GPU than the SIII according to benchmarks if I remember correctly, but has the better processor. SIII scores better in comprehensive benchmarks like Quadrant though.

2. Put the contacts you will call into a group you can label something obvious, like "phone". You can set the phone to display only those contacts.

3. Some use a dummy gmail because they believe doing so would keep anyone from keeping track of what they do on their devices, or they just simply don;t want to mix info on their phone to their devices. As for migrating, I migrated my data from Outlook straight to Android with little hiccups.

Be aware that if you use an upgrade on VZ for a phone you will lose unlimited data. To keep the unlimited data plan you have to pay full retail upfront for a new phone. Really sucks 'cause unlike T-Mobile, VZ will not then reduce your monthly rate. A rip-off in typical VZ fashion.
