Root Best Tethering Software Once Rooted

Hi just wondering which app, piad or non-paid is best for use for tething once rootied? Thanks for the help.

i use PDANET, was 14.99 for the full version. whats so great about it is it just works. no fuss or mess.

i use wireless tether, works great but requires root.
i used pda net trial on my winmo phone, it worked great for usb tether

For usb there is pdanet and easy tether

For wifi there is wireless tether and barnacle (these require root)

I don't think one clearly stands out, they all do the job

So just a quick newbie question. Can it be tethered with the apps listed above without root? And does it then cost the $20 per month? I am a total newbie on android so be gentle I know in WinMo i was able to tether wireless and wired with no charges.
