Best Twitter app?

I've managed to avoid Twitter since it's launch, but now I have a need for it. I'm looking for opinions on the plethora of apps for it. What's good? What's bad? Why do you feel that way? My phone is rooted and the stock Twitter app has been gone for over a year. It annoyed me because it never stopped running (part of why I rooted to begin with.)

Tweetcaster Pro. This and Tweetbot for iOS are the gold standards imo. You can control either app in whether you want it running and sending you notifications all the time or only to refresh when you open the app. Only thing I don't like about Tweetcaster are the amont of permissions it needs.

Which one will close when you leave the app? I found one from Twitter always running.
I didn't care about new tweets - I'll look when I want to, so disabled that. But app still ran in background anyway.

I got to the point where I'd read, maybe post, then freeze the Twitter app with Titanium. I'd defrost when I wanted it again. I only check once a week anyway.

Tweetcaster and twicca might have what you need, since in both you can disable any type of polling and just get your tweets when you open the app.

In your particular case, wouldn't it be better to just use the web version? No running service, no notifications, just open the web page and look whatever you need to look. It seems that that might be what you really need.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm running with Tweetcaster right now, and it hasn't ticked me off. I think we have a winner.

I've heard really good things about Boid

Boid is a brilliant app and has just released pre beta and plans to go to beta soon. For me this is the best client but at the moment lacks features such as push notifications (not for everyone though) and remembering timeline position when re opening the app.

I tend to switch between boid, plume and twicca ( i also have the official app, tweetcaster and ubersocial installed. I don't dislike any of them but i think boid is my favourite

I'm having problems with non-offical twitter apps. Boid and Tweet Lanes both seem to fail at the authorise stage. Does anyone have suggestion?

I've uninstalled / turned phone on and off etc.

I'm running stock 4.1.1, but had the problem while on 4.0.4 also.

Thanks in advance
