Help Best very basic Android handset

I've just signed up to a new contract and can't port my number yet (for reasons I won't go into). As so many people have my original number I want to forward all my calls (which I'll do at network level) and SMS to my new number (which I'll need to do at handset level). So I'm after a very basic, cheap but reliable handset which I can use with my old SIM and an SMS forwarding app to forward SMS to my new number. It just needs decent battery life, so I can leave it at home happily forwarding SMS!
Any suggestions for suitable handsets please? Or is there an easier way to go about this? Thanks

I think you can get one of these for "almost free" now a days! It was the first Android that I had, and it still works as long as I charge the battery every once in a while.

Why do you need decent battery life if you are just going to leave it at home?
Just leave it plugged in.
