BestBuy vs. Verizon Store

SMWAS

Newbie
I have only bought my phones directly from Verizon stores in the past. However, it looks like Verizon's price for the Razr Maxx HD is $299.99 while BestBuy's online site lists it at $199.99. That seems like a huge difference. Is there something I am missing? Is there any downside to buying from BestBuy instead of directly through Verizon?

Thanks in advance.

Bought mine through Best Buy. Best Buy will price match Amazon.com, Verizon store won't. Saved me $120.00. I see that Amazon has the RMHD at $199 today.

Best Buy has 30 day return policy, Verizon store has 14 days.

I can't think of a good reason to buy at the Verizon store.

The only thing to be aware is that if you buy from these authorized retailers, you are also subject a secondary etf penalty if you choose to terminate the contract prematurely. Generally this other "mini contract" isn't for the full length of your Verizon contract; it is usually about 6 months.

Even though Best buy has a 30 day return policy, you still have only the Verizon 14 day window to return the phone and revert to your old contract terms.

OK, but if you got a bad phone but were happy with your contract you can still return the phone to Best Buy within 30 days, correct?

Yes, the 14 days only applies to you service from Verizon. So if you got a lemon phone or just plain don't like it, the 30 window is your friend for an exchange.

I love best buy, never had any problems with their service and have always had a great experiences. The VZW store on the other hand, i've had more bad luck than good luck. I avoid the corporate stores at all cost.

ive got my last two phones from best buy and never had any issue with the service and like said earlier they will match any price for 30 days..

although you already bought, I'm adding to convo...

best buy is one of the better authorized retailers, typically without any "additional" contract or hidden verbiage. (check wirefly.com terms and conditions to see what I mean.) they may have a 30 day return on purchase, but verizon still only has a 14 day window for reversals. so if you change your mind and want to revert the contract, you can't after the 14 days - as was mentioned.

the other thing to keep in mind is that if you have a defective phone, and are still within best buy's return period, you MUST go back to best buy. verizon will troubleshoot, but for exchanges they won't do anything for you other than send you out a certified like new replacement. same goes if you're not happy with the phone- you must go back to best buy. the phone didn't come from verizon inventory, and as such they won't do anything with the device w/in the original return period.

Question...threw vzw without insurance they will give you a replacement within the first year if its internal problem....how does that work with best buy?

Looking at buying at best buy too due to the $100 lesser price. Shouldn't affect my family plan at all right? Do you still have to pay the $30 upgrade fee at BB?

You will get hit with it eventually. If not in the store then it will be on your first bill.

Bought a HTC Incredible 2 a couple years ago and I'm eligible to upgrade Jan 28. Love my phone but planning on purchasing the Droid Razr Maxx HD because of the battery.

As of today, Razr Maxx HD is $299 at Verizon store, $199 at Amazon, and $149 at Wirefly. The post I quoted says that Best Buy will match Amazon. Does anyone know if they'll match Wirefly? I bought my Incredible 2 thru Wirefly and have had no problems with them or the phone but I hear there are some Wirefly skeptics out there so I'm kind of leary about using them again.

Just wondering if anyone knows if Amazon would match their price as well. Thanks.

Higher bill, or one time fee IFyou get a new phone on contract? Yeah, I didn't think so

Check wireflys terms and conditions... they have a secondary contract on top of Verizon's.

They might. You'd have to ask them. When I asked about Amazon they said they would match Amazon so long as it was Amazon selling it and not a third party seller using Amazon to list their products.

I bought my Razr Maxx HD at Samsclub.com (which might be a branded version of Wirefly). (As of 1/28/2013 the price is $148.88.) The first unit was damaged, and I could not exchange it at a Verizon store, but the replacement was overnighted to me. The service contract was much better than Verizon or Squaretrade because the plan requires no deductible; however, it does require an annual rather than monthly payment.

One side note: I needed to transfer an upgrade from one line to another, and they handled that for me without a hitch.

Got mine at Best Buy. They had it for $199 but price matched Amazon's $149. Plus I added their geek squad protection for $9.99 a month

I just did the exact same thing this past friday, same price etc.

Has anyone had any experience with the geek squad protection? I usually get the protection plan through Verizon, but Best Buy emphasized no deductable compared to $99 at Verizon, so I decided to tro it.

Just an FYI that Amazon wireless dropped the price of these this week. I got a RAZR HD for .01 for an upgrade. Some were $19.99. but I kept searching until I got it for a penny! Plus the $30 upgrade....can't beat it! And i am a verizon customer, where that site is selling the exact phone on an upgrade for $149.
