Help Better screen utilization?

On my Pixel 6 with Android 12, I need to better utilize the desktop screen, please. The attached image shows a large empty space at upper right, and an extra date indicator at upper left. I need the digital clock widget, but can't figure out how to remove the date indicator and use the empty space.

Your detailed instructions are greatly appreciated.

Try long-pressing directly on that date indicator so its contextual interface becomes visible. It's likely to be just another widget so it might show size indicators you can use to open up that space on the right side, or just remove it. Or drag and drop it on a different screen.

Long-pressing the date indicator presents a "Customize" option menu. None of the options allow deletion or size changes. Android 12 is different from previous versions.

Yeah, the problem isn't Android 12, it's likely Google's Launcher app.

When I got my Pixel 2 the "Pixel Launcher" included a search bar and a clock/notification widget that could not be removed: Google, in their wisdom, had decided that everyone needed these things, and needed them where Google said they needed them. End of story, the corporation knows what is good for you and you better just accept it (Google are more like Apple than they like to admit). So of course I tolerated this for about 90 seconds and then installed a different launcher...
