So the free app Snapchat, under the moniker 'social media', seems to be a hit

because the videos or images are gone forever after 10 and 5 seconds

Gone forever is from user perspective. From a developer point of view, just remember once a file is created and hosted, there is nothing as gone forever the moment you transmit to the cloud. This is unlike during non-Internet or connectivity era where the file is transmitted via diskette or tape.

Even then a user can very easily capture a screenshot, and upload it to their Tumblr or Twitter or Facebook or something. It's then on the interwebs indefinitely, for the whole world to see.

I bet the owner off the app has all these so called deleted pictures stored somewhere. I bet hes a sicko. Ill feel bad if these pics get released somewhere..
