Beware hidden costs of Hangouts

Apologies if this has already been covered.

Careful when sending group SMSs with Hangouts. Unlike the stock SMSs app on Jellybean it sends as MMS, so you might get charged.

If you guys don't like hangouts, I recommend using 8sms. It is based on the stock 4.3 messaging app.

Don't all smartphones do this? If you send a group message it sends it as a MMS.

Many plans do not include text messaging. This is true for several AT&T plans although you can pay $20/month for unlimited messaging.

THANK YOU! I tried to send a multiple phone number text earlier today and it would.not.go.through. I tried several times and just got really frustrated. In less than two minutes, I downloaded this app, added the people I needed and it sent correctly. So excited. Thank you!

What makes you think iMessage doesn't use your data plan. If you're not on wi-fi it will use your data plan. Hangouts is the same.

They will not use up any SMSs or MMSs however.
