Good job!
Even as I read this, I knew I wasn't getting the joke, and didn't have to wait for the next post from user "huh" for confirmation.

Much of the fun of BBT comes from that sense of either being an insider, or an outsider. Whether it is in reference to fundamental human interactions, popular culture references, historic cultural references, or theoretical science references; We all savor that feeling of being in the know, as an actor / actress waits a half a beat for you to catch up before delivering the next line! I was reminded as I read the above quote that it can be equally fulfilling to merely infer from context....."It must be my turn to be outside.......The funny detector is going off, but I have no idea what it means".
I particularly enjoy when one inside joke references another, and better still if it pays tribute to an inside joke or meme from an outside franchise: Sheldon has broken into Penny's room while she sleeps, completely freaking her out. When the dust settles, he is sitting, unwelcome, on the bed with her, trying to explain his motivation in an uncharacteristically thoughtful and vulnerable way. Penny looks at him sternly and says, "....Worst.......bedtime........story......EVER!"
For me, the best artistic achievements always tap into a loop of "art imitating life imitating art";
My favorite character is definitely Amy Farrah Fowler. No less complicated or peculiar than Sheldon, but more of her quirks seem to have been imposed on her by experience, rather than genetics. Sheldon is androgynous and celibate for relatively simple, stated reasons. Amy is celibate but not by choice, is frustrated but without emotional tools to fix the problem; Without physical tools to attract a "better" man; Smart enough to recognize that on paper, Sheldon should be a perfect match, not experienced enough to know often that's not enough. Where Sheldon is a "true genius, perpetual outsider" (Ergo, the world must adapt to me!), Amy is merely a "utility grade" genius, slogging her way through the experience, as best she can.
Before the Amy character was introduced, they were making references to Mayim Bialik in real life, and as a "ridiculous choice" to join the group. A genuine neuroscience doctorate degree holder in real life, she may be one of the only true scientists on a set filled with brilliant actors portraying scientists. A child actress whose career began long before some of her co-workers'; Not principally known as a comedienne, she has brilliant, understated timing; She can cock her head or raise an eyebrow to make Groucho Marx proud.
As with all Hollywood actresses, she is a real life human being, playing a role........deliberately "made down" to appear plain and uninspiring for the camera, but quite capable of appearing absolutely stunning on the runway; Off camera, the truth of her beauty lies somewhere in between, comfortably middle of the road. Other aspects of her personal life are less middle of the road, and inevitably bleed into her onstage persona; Her real life orthodox beliefs partly dictate how her character dresses, and lends a certain rigid, formal quality which comes from more than just scripted stage direction.
A great character that would not be the same if portrayed by anyone else. A great show, and I'm sure similar arguments could be made for other cast members, I choose Amy.
