Big Red getting the iPhone.

No way do I want an iPhone. I remember wishing desperately that VZW would get the iPhone a couple years back, because there really wasn't anything comparable in the way of a rich graphical touch interface. Then Android came, specifically the HTC variants with the Sense UI, and I haven't looked back. There is so much more customization possible with my DINC that the iPhone users can even hope for; of course, the demographic that the iPhone targets are typically less concerned with customization and more with having a closed box system that is simple to use. Understood, but the iPhone just doesn't do it for me...

Cheers

Who cares? we can upgrade our, memory, battery, ROM, and almost everything else. iPhone can't, nuff said.

Preaching to the choir here. I hate Apple and all that they stand for. I posted this to gauge how many DINC owners are interested in the news. There are several threads open that say where are you going next, or gauging interest in the Thunderbolt. I just wondered if anyone would leave Android to jump to the AppPhone. My suspicion is that there may be a few that frequent these forums that MAY, but for the most part the crowd here is pretty independent and love the customization of the Android OS.

No. I've tried the IPhone and am perfectly happy with Android. If it does happen, I'm afraid what could happen as a result:

- more subscribers means slower data speeds and spottier service
- because of more subscribers, Verizon will introduce tiered pricing for data and will eliminate unlimited
- just because they can, Verizon will increase their price plans (because why would anyone switch back to AT&T)

Hmmm...all this seems familiar...right, look at what AT&T did after getting the IBone.

I am open to anything. I love technology and i love trying different things. :) My Inc however is almost perfect (minus the battery, plasticky build)

Wish I had a Desire!

No way, why would I want to downgrade?! By the time I'm ready for an upgrade there will be even better android phones. Iphone may have pioneered the simple smart phone, but their single serving hardware is simply the past. They must now adopt and allow other hardware developers to develop. They will be second rate in my book until they adopt open and free software with the ability to develop hardware. Until then it's the McDonald's version of the smartphone.

You cannot deny the iphone 4 is a great phone. If you deny it then you are delusional.

Agreed!!

I think we sometimes fail to look at who or what a device is marketed or intended for. I see nothing wrong with the Iphone for people who want something like that.

I am willing to bet that if answered honestly, a lot of Android users (on VZW network) would admit that they initially went that route to get and Iphone type device.

Really? The OS is dated. No central notifications, no multi-tasking, no GPS baked in, you're stuck with stock apps for things like email and media and you can't change them and that's just for starters. Android, BB and WP7 all let you change one or all of those things. Not mention the well-documented hardware issues with the antenna. Plus, you can't replace the battery? WTF is up with that? I go out of town sometimes and I may leave my hotel room at 7 or 8 am and not get back until midnight. Any smart phone you use consistently during that frame is going to be close to dead if not dead. With my DInc, I just swap out a battery and I'm good to go. I don't even have that option. It's a decent phone, maybe even a nice phone, but it's not great.

as to the post above me, I have to disagree with you. I stopped liking apple products after purchasing an IPOD and being so disappointed with the lack of customization and the fact they forced Itunes software onto the user. (hacked addon to windows music player fixed this)

When the iphone came out, yeah I took a look at it, played with it, and came to the conclusion that my smartphone needed to be a little more smarter for me to actually purchase one, and then viola Android was born and I never looked back, or regretted or questioned my initial opinion of the iphone.

Is the Iphone 4 great? NO... by no means of the imagination did this phone WOW me on release day. Hardware specs are decent, but even on release the specs to HTC EVO pretty much placed the Iphone 4 as just a decent upgrade to the Iphone zombies, not to the whole world.

AND THEY STILL ONLY MAKE 1 TYPE OF PHONE. So people who like slide keyboards have to conform, and people who want a BB feel have to conform. People who want big screens HAVE TO BUY THE BIG BOY VERSION OF THE IPHONE (IPAD) to get a larger screen.... fantasticly stupid.... delusional is the CEO of that company.

Using cydia apps you can get a lot more options with the iphone os (including a notification pulldown bar) here is just one video of a boring english guy

I go through two batteries on my Dinc before my buddies iphone 4 dies. You can get GPS apps. New antenna for verizon iphone will address antenna issues. PS All Droid Incredibles have antennagate issues....

I have tried numerous times myself. It does have antennagate!

I love the Incredible. I just want to try out the iPhone and play with all the Cydia Apps! hahaha Enjoy the debate!

For me... no interest in the iPhone. But if my wife suddenly wanted one? I might nudge her toward the iPhone simply because there is less for her to screw up... and me to fix. I am tech support/maintenance in my house, and already manage computers, toilets, & light bulbs. Last thing I want to do is to constantly train her... Android is much more flexible... and therefor breakable.

There is a certain user type that would be better off with iPhones. My wife is one.

That's the point though. You have to hack it and void your warranty. If you want a media player that lets you set EQs for each song, you'd have to hack your phone and void your warranty to do it. I don't know if you can do it even then TBH. With Android, you just buy an app.

The DInc battery sucks, but it doesn't nullify my point that I can replace the battery if I want to. With the iPhone, you don't even have that option. Yes, you can get GPS apps, but you can do that on Android as well. The thing with Android is that GPS is baked in right out of the box. There's no need to buy a GPS app just to get basic GPS functionality. It's baked in. I've never had antenna issues with my DInc.

I've played with the Cydia apps. I can do more customization with an Android app right out of the box than I could do with Cydia. Plus, I didn't have to void my warranty just to install 3rd party apps.

The Apple ecosystem is such a closed ecosystem. You can innovate somewhat within that box, but that's it. With Android, you can not only innovate within that box, but you can change the box completely. Heck, look at the Nook Color. Do you think Apple would let Barnes and Noble customize a version of iOS to power an e-reader? Somehow I doubt it.

Going from Android to iOS is like slugging a police officer because you are tired of freedom and would like nothing more than to be behind bars during the day and raped on a daily basis in the showers.

Im as happy as a fly in a field of feces that the iphone is coming to verizon. It will be great to see android outsell it and negate the excuse that the iphone is only on at&t. A proven 2nd place for a 2nd rate phone is only a good thing in my eyes.

What's the point, damn thing isn't even 4G. The iPhone doesn't do Flash either, which is pretty much a deal breaker for me. At the very least wait until the iPhone 5. It might actually be an LTE phone. The Thunderbolt is my next purchase I do believe.

I have an iPod touch and a Wifi hotspot connection. That's good enough for me!

But I am hoping for a nice little spike in Apple's share price tomorrow!

I would be very surprised if the iPhone 5 is an LTE phone. And we all know it won't support Flash either because Flash is not "open". Gag me. What a lame excuse.
