Big Red getting the iPhone.

It is legal, but still voids your warranty.

Your complaint is that you aren't getting OS updates in a timely manner, but your comparison is getting them once a year? I don't see how you can complain about getting multiple updates in a year, because Apple gets one a year...

Right, once a year. The thing is, EVERYONE has to wait for a new update. Its not fragmented with some phone like the Nexus One getting updates early cause its Google's phone. Pretty much forcing you to buy a phone with outdated tech just to get OS updates first and now you cant even get it. So one carrier will upgrade while another might take months to upgrade as you sit on your old Android OS wondering whats going on or if your carrier even feels like updating your phone thats barely 6 months old thus forcing you to buy a new phone at full retail just to get the new OS. Its BS and its going to make people stop buying Android devices if Google doesnt fix it and fast.

Ahh... so, Android sucks because you get three or four updates a year, but some people get them first.... as opposed to once a year as long as everyone gets them at the same time?

Translation: iPhone rules... and Android isn't as good... because.

LMAO, who gets 3 or 4 updates a YEAR on their Android phones? Please tell me who and I will switch right now! My Hero got 2.1 a year ago and it ran slower than a phone 10 years older and Sprint decided it wouldnt get 2.2 So then I had to spend $600 to get an Evo just to get 2.2 last June. So I have had 2 updates in over a year and had to pay $600 and buy a new phone just to get one of them, thats pathetic. Many people are still running 2.1 for a year. 3-4 updates a year? LOL Nice try.

A similar occurrence would happen if you tried to install iOS4 on a iphone3g. You cannot expect old ass phones to run the hottest new OS. I do not know of any specific phones getting more than 2 updates in a year, but Google is much faster with updates in software in general because they are not tied to specific hardware releases... It sounds like you do not want options. You want the same thing as everyone else. You would be much happier with an iphone. So get one.

The Droid X was released with 2.1, now they have gotten 2.2, and are about to get 2.3.

The next update 3.0, will also be released on the Droid X. That's to name 1.

It launched when 2.2 was about to be released, so that doesnt really count but ok. Its had 2 updates in seven months with nothing but rumors of 2.3 coming soon. Thats TWO, not three or four...

There have been 5 official updates for the Evo since launch day and an Evo owner, you might be aware of that.

There have been 2 OS updates from Google since the Evo was launched. The first it got within 6 weeks of the code hitting the open repository and the second hit the open repository less than a month ago.

I am talking about major OS updates, not lame updates that add bloatware and slow down my phone like the last one did  As I said, I already had the Hero with 2.1 and it was incredibly slow. Then Sprint says they will no longer update it after it had hardly been out ONE year. That forced me to buy and Evo to get a phone that worked properly with 2.1 and I had to pay full retail since my Hero was only 6 months old. I got 2.2 alright, who knows if I will ever see 2.3 Say what you will about Apple but at least you dont have to buy a new phone every year just to get the newest OS. Android is becoming a joke because your phone is outdated within months when some other carrier comes out with something bigger and better. Then you have to hope and pray your carrier still feels like pushing OS updates to your phone that you just recently bought.

Android isn't becoming a joke.

iOS doesn't update at the rate you claim.

People that enjoy the iPhone can soon have it on Big Red.

For those seeking a technically superior alternative, with much greater variety of handsets and interfaces, there's Android.

mbell75's whole argument (and everyone that I've read that is iPhone over Android) can be boiled down to ... it's Apple, and the iPhone... and Android/Google isn't.

IT doesn't matter if you get more frequent updates. You have to wait for them... that's unacceptable.

So, instead of waiting for those 2-5 updates a year... let's wait ALL year, for just one.

Frequent updates, and I count the incremental ones as important or more so that major revision changes, provide needed bug fixes and small enhancements that add overall usability. As defects are always being found, and sometimes introduced by the previous enhancements, I find rapid updates preferable for anything concerning software other than simple appliances.

Unless you develop your own updates, you will have to wait for them to be releases. no way around that with any device, program, and/or service. With android, you can just as easily root your phone as you can update it. If iOS releases an update and you don't like it, guess what? S.O.L... If Android releases one and you dont like, flash another rom.
[conformity(iphone) vs individuality(android)]

Plus, bloatware is added by the carrier.

Say what you will about Apple but at least you dont have to buy a new phone every year just to get the newest OS.

This is hardly a valid argument. Yes, you can squeeze out 1+ years out of an iphone and still get the current updates. The 3Gs works with iOS4, but not nearly as well as it does on the iP4. And the 3G does not work at all(released 2 years prior to iOS4)
Apple has one phone to support. They do this pretty well. But they also have 100% control over every aspect of the phone and even how people use it. Google is just a software company(not including the Nexus). Google has many different devices and carriers to support. Some get left behind, but that is the hardware manufacturers and carriers problem. And it is ultimately the consumers responsibility to research a device and understand what they are looking at long term in this ever evolving market.
You are really just complaining that you have too many options to choose from.

None of this really matters. You feel burned by Google. Good luck with Apple. I have plenty of friends who are happy as kittens with there iPhones.

Has anyone even mentioned the fact, that most phones can upgrade via Root and have all new OS's as fast as independent developers can get them out??? I mean, why wait a year, or even months (verizon quality testing, aka dragging feet for no reason at all) I have the inc, and it started with 2.1, got the OTA for 2.2 and have a working 3.0 rom on my phone, and if I don't like it I can go to many different ROMS that are even better than stock. You can't do that with the IPhone... and a lot of people won't do it with android, however having the option to do this, with very little headache is a big win.

IOS is simply the dumbest smartphone, for the IOS Zombies, who can't handle anything more than spoon fed technology. Congrats, you are normal and think very little on your own. Just the way big business likes you.... now go get your VZ Iphone cause Apple and VZ said so. They need more money to improve the network for my Android.

OK, Big Red's getting the iPhone, this thread is now just a hate iPhone forum - funny, but just hating.

It's a big world, it would be boring if everyone thought and bought the same, let's wish them luck and make the world comfy and cheerful for when they want to step up to Android.
