Biggest Beer database app - Has 300,000 and counting

It uses The Beer and Breweries Authority, Rate Beer as it's database, so you can always run some searches from their website first to see what kind of results you can expect.

Hey guys - thanks much for the recognition. We worked our asses off on this app for a good, long time. We're pretty proud of it.

That said, you don't even need to check RateBeer first - that defeats the purpose of the app. We have admins all over the world (on RateBeer), that are verifying beers from their countries. The fact is that one of our heaviest presences is in Britain. In fact, one of the admins actually works at Brewdog.

So, my point is that our database is RateBeer's - the beers are probably in there. if they don't come up right away, by speaking the names, just try typing them in. But hell, we probably have more brewpub beers, than most other apps have beers! ;)

Thanks again, guys, If you really like it, all I can ask is that you spread the word.

Awesome! Will purchase tonight and test it out.

Right, what I meant was if people are leery of spending money on the app because they're not sure about the depth of database, they can run some searches at ratebeer.com to see they WILL get results with this app.

Cool app. No regrets with my purchase. :)

Hi Matt,

Love the app. The only niggling complaint I have is that there doesn't seem to be a way to add UPCs to your database of beers. I scanned two beers (Terrapin Hopsecutioner and Gonzo Imperial Porto) and neither of the UPCs was recognized. It would be nice to be able to send you that information so that you could correlate the beers with the UPCs. I would think this could be a nice option from the beer page (i.e. search for a beer, go to page with info. about beer, click button to add UPC if not available, then scan in barcode). Dealing with incorrect scans and intentional errors...well, that's someone else's problem. Cheers and keep up the good work!

Although $3 isn't much, I'd prefer to see an ad supported or limited use demo first. Especially with the new 15 min market trial period. This app seem's almost to be a ideal for ad support anyway. If not for beer suggestions, then for things that go with beer or places to buy and/or consume beer.

I bought the app and like it so far. My only suggestion is a way to look at the beer info rather than scrolling the smallish window at the bottom of the screen. Maybe a enlarge button to press or a single press of the info opening the info into a full screen window. Some beers have a quite a bit of info and to scroll that little window is a bit of a pain.

I'll forward this over to my homies at great divide in denver along with every beer twitter/facebook friend I have

hmmmm can't find it on the Android market. Installed App brain but then it just sends me over to the market where again it can't find it.

Any thoughts? I have an Archos32 so it's not a phone (put market on it via .apk)

First, thanks to you all for your suggestions. We're going to have a good, hard look at them all and decide what to include in near-future updates and what can be held off for the short term.

That said, thanks a ton, acs. Yours is really the kind of viral communication we think will bring this app to the masses. Much appreciated! :)

Hi acs,

Try searching for the app again, it looks like they downgraded the rating and it may not be filtered through your carrier anymore.

Be sure and grab the 1.1 update that came out yesterday, it's a lot easier to view the data now.

Like the update a lot. Everything is a lot easier to read. Now if we only had a rating system maybe something based on five stars. Yes I know I can be demanding at times. Good job on the update though.

Glad you like it, cheers! :D Our next update will likely include a way to rate your personal favorites list, so keep an eye out. As TheBeerSommelier mentioned, we really don't want to stray far from our mission of having a single-purpose, beer identification app, so we likely will not go with shared or social ratings.

However, we see the importance of being able to personally rate the beers you have in your favorites list, so that you can keep track of what you're enjoying, and are working on a model for that which will be included likely in our 1.2 release.

Thanks again for your support!

Hey Acs,

Happy to say that we've figured this one out, the app should be visible to you in the marketplace now. Cheers!

Love the update as well! Would the home-screen look more appealing if each of the buttons were larger squares that filled the screen instead of rows that partially fill the screen?

Thanks disastar, and yes, we're looking at redesigning the home page, probably in the next release, and conforming to more of a standard app layout, with tiles, etc. I really appreciate your feedback, it's this kind of stuff that's helping us evolve.

New Update! v1.11, this greatly improves the network connectivity with RateBeer, you shouldn't see any more crashes or force closes in low-network areas anymore. Download the update ASAP, it's a much improved experience. We also fixed issues w/ the font scaling to larger devices, so if you were having trouble reading descriptions, etc, be sure to update!
