i have added birthday details along with contacts but my calendar does not show this event on it. Is this a bug or samsung galaxy y duos does not support this feature?

Sounds like a bug to me or possibly just phone specific way of handling contacts and calendars separate. My Galaxy Nexus (stock Android) will add an event to my calendar if I add the birthday under contacts. Google Contacts and Calendars should automatically integrate those together.
Check your sync settings to make sure your contacts and calendars are syncing. Log in to your google account and check your contacts and calendars there to see if it shows up online.
