Bizarre Issue with S2

This is going to sound nuts, but my phone goes crazy if I start typing a word in text or email beginning with "si". Earlier this week, I was trying to type the word side in an email and it just stopped typing. It wouldn't let me finish the email, the keyboard went away and I had to re-boot the phone and start the email over. Again, I got to that word and it did the same thing. I finally changed the sentence to say "east of the freeway" instead of "the east side of the freeway" because my phone went crazy. I've tested it since then and if I type "si" the phone goes ape on me. This was not a one time thing....it's continued. Does this make sense to anyone? What in the world would cause this?

This is one I have never heard of. Have you tried turning off the phone, pulling the battery for a minute, and then re-booting the phone? Sometimes that can cure up little quirks in the system like that. Good luck with it, and let us know if you find what the cause was, or a way that fixes it.

Yeah, I've turned it off and on, taken the battery out.....anything you can think of, I've done it. It continues.

I was telling my husband about it earlier and he laughed at me and said there was no way that was possible. So I handed him the phone, he tried it, and sure enough it did it again.

I feel like the phone must think it's a command of some sort. I don't know really what else it could be other than that, or just a strange glitch. But it's only if I type "si". I wish I could record it doing it somehow and post it here!

The Epic 4G Touch is the Samsung GS2. It's just the Sprint variant. ;) Have you tried a different keyboard? Could be a problem with the stock one. I prefer to use Swiftkey, but you may find another that you prefer. That's the beauty of Android. Anyway, try one out and see if you still have the same problem. And actually, now that I'm thinking about it, you can just try the other KB on your phone first. There is a "stock" Samsung KB as well as the TW Swype. Just long press in the input box, then choose "Input Method" and then pick the one that isn't marked. Then see if the problem still persists.

There was similar post on another web site (also you StaceyLyn78?) and someone suggested that the auto-correct dictionary for the keyboard has been somehow "trashed". That would make a lot of sense based on the symptoms you describe. I know the Swype keyboard has an option to clear the dictionary, so I'd try that if you can find it. Or as someone else suggested, try a different keyboard (which wouldn't have the same dictionary).
