I have a contact (on my Gmail account). I can scroll down people and see this contact, but if I search for it, or try to text it, it is as if it doesn't exist! This just started today
I had this exact problem. If you're syncing with your google contacts, sign into google contacts on the web and you'll probably have the phantom contacts listed under "other contacts". The contact wouldn't show up for me when I searched or scrolled through "people" but it would show up when I was composing a text or something.. Once I deleted the other contacts in my google contacts it went away.
