Help Black/black phones in the UK?

Hi, my son has decided to get a Defy for Christmas and we just looked at it in the carphonewarehouse. He really doesn't like the white band that runs around the back, and in all the pictures he had seen of it, it was all black. Cpw say you can only get it with this white band, but then again I am sure that they would say that!

Is it possible to get an all black version in the uk? Anyone any ideas where we could get one?

Carphone Warehouse strike me as the kinda company that would lie to get a sale.

I don't know if the prices are any good, but the ones on amazon.co.uk and play.com don't seem to have white bands on the back:

So I would assume other places in the UK sell them too :)

Thanks for that, I never thought of amazon or play. The only problem there I guess is that they will sell them sim free, whereas he needs a contract.....
 
Sometimes they restrict certain colours to certain deals too. That was the case with my phone (the only way to get a black one was to go with a T-Mobile contract). So it's possible the only all black ones are sim free.

That's just a guess/suggestion on my part of course, I don't know that for sure. Hopefully some defy owners know where you can get all back ones on contract :)
 
I think the default UK model is all black.

Mine certainly is. Got on contract from T-mobile.

CPW are chancing their mitt because they don't have any black ones.... steer well clear... if they lie before they get sale imagine how they'll act after they get your cash!
 
Thanks for all the info. I just found it all black at mobilephonesdirect, has anyone had any dealings with them?

Also, my son is on orange at the moment, and all the contracts for the Defy are vodafone or tmobile - has anyone got any views as to whether one of these networks is better than the other?

I'm not sure about Vodafone but on T-Mobile you'll get 3gb FUP for data since you'll be on an Android phone. Reception should be better now too, considering you can roam (is this the right word for it?) onto Orange for 2g services (calls and texts). 3G sharing should also be available some time in the future as well.

I'm currently on o2 pay & go myself but for those reasons up above I've decided that I'll most likely go with T-Mobile when I get my Defy :)

Edit: Sorry but I just remembered, if you don't get it directly from T-Mobile then your internet speed will be capped, and you'll also only have a 1gb limit. I've heard of people contacting them and getting upgraded but I'm not sure if this still happens now.
