Help Black line across screen, and Insurance

All,

I have had my new Note 2 for about 5 days, but ordered on 19th (postage delay). Havent even got any contacts saved on it yet!
Its a UK phone.

I noticed this morning I have a black line across the screen this morning.

Now the phone did slip out of my hand yesterday, it was plugged into the charging cable and the cable pulled it as i moved it.
Damn things so big yet too slim and glossy so you cannot hold it without putting fingers over the screen. marked the top of the phone too.:(

Currently the phone has no case. I have got the defender for my iphone 4 and htc dhd but Otterbox still havnt release a case for the Note2!

I've never had a problem with any other phone screens in the past.

I'm sure the screen is damaged.
Where do I stand with screen replacements?

The phone was from an online shop.
Do I contact the shop, or network provider?

I'm assuming that being only 8 days since ive had it, there is some sort of warranty?

I have not insurance. How does phone insurance work?
Is the duration over a 12 months period?
If I take some insurance out now, and say claim on it in a few weeks time, can I cancel it within a month, or 2?

Or is it possible to get hold of a screen and replace myself?

Ta for the help

Jon

Send it back. Mine had this after a few days. Think there might be a problem with the early ones.
Replacement ok so far.

As long as it doesn't have any visibly obvious cosmetic damage sounds like it can be a warranty issue. Try contacting Samsung directly and see if they can help. I don't think anyone can really advise you on the insurance side since it may be considered fraud.

From his comment, sounds like it does have a visible sign of damage. Where he purchased from or even Samsung themselves can say the black line was incurred from a drop and not a manufacturer defect.
