How can I make the white strip black where the time and other notification icons displays?

Root your phone and install one of many custom ROMS. Virtually all of them have black notification bars (in keeping with the theme that AMOLED uses less power on a black background)

is it possible without rooting and installing custom ROMs.. Because I don't want to void my warranty. :(

To my knowledge, as long as you don't unlock the bootloader, your warranty is still good. Either way, they don't make the phone anymore outside of some carriers or buying a developer package so I figured it was time to try it out. I used One Click Root. I've attached the program so you can give it a shot. After you root, download ROM Manager and flash ClockworkMod. From there you can start putting custom ROMs on your phone. Believe me, you'll be surprised on what you're missing without rooting.

As far as non-rooting, I've yet to see a method that could do it. If you don't want to root, wait for Gingerbread near the end of the year. It's supposed to give people to ability to modify the UI or so they have said.

You mean if I root and install a cyanogen 6 ROM or MODACO ROM.. I won't void my warranty?

Nope. You can make a back-up of your current ROM as it is now. If you don't like it or need the phone repaired for some reason, restore that ROM. Also, the one click root has an unroot option, though I've never used it. Still worried about rooting?

Not now.. I am excited now about cyanogen ROM..

BTW.. I don't have access to internet connection in my cellphone. But I do have access in PC (office). Can you provide me download link (non-market) to ClockworkMod and ROM manager?

And how to take backup of current ROM?

Buddy.. see the following URL..

cyanogen says that to install custom ROMs.. you'll require to unlock the bootloader.. and if you unlock it .. it void warranty..

Not necessarily true. I'm rooted and my bootloader is still locked.

I've done everything.. But I am not able to install cyanogen mod using ROM manager.. please help me.. how to install custom ROM from SD card using ROM manager?

do a backup first then

just download it to your sd card then go to reboot in recovery do a factory reset then select install zip from sd card then hit choose zip from sd card from there find the rom click it then install then reboot

Congrats fabler! :D So I guess you're loving the SU promission you're getting now ;)

hmm... lemme see it.. does it have sense+ froyo?

No, it looks and feels the same as stock, but it's tweaked alot, in a very good way!
Also you can apply custom themes and GUI mods. I flashed the regular Enomther ROM and after that I flashed a black (carbon) status bar with it, that was all I needed :)

Yeah.. that's great.. Actually sense UI is awesome. I love it. That's why I needed one ROM with sense UI.. But I know sense UI is very heavy so may be it is battery drowning. BTW.. can I flash any sense UI update on cyanogen or anyother custom ROM?

Typically no. Sense tends to very specific to the ROM. We only have customized versions of Sense ROMs or ports of them. I believe CM has a Sense ROM, plus Evil's, and maybe a couple more out there, but if you want updates, you have to wait for those specific Sense ROMs to update from the modding crew.

Yeah.. alright.. I will wait till Evil's ROM give a good battery life.. I am currently watching its thread.. :)

I've also posted this on Cyanogen but hoped for a quick answer so:

I have just installed CM 6.0.0 Stable on my N1.

I have managed to set the status bar to black by selecting the colour and rebooting.

Only now, I cannot seem to alter the time and date text (changing colour and rebooting has no effect). I also don't seem to be able to revert the notification bar to white or another colour. Resetting also doesn't seem to work.

I'm sure it's something daft.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: sorted thanks.
