Black screen and unresponsive problems

A while ago I updated my phone and immediate afterwards I started having a problem where waking my phone up wouldn't work periodically and I would have to wait god knows how long before it would work again. Taking out the battery would only give me a temporary fix to this problem. Restarting would make my screen flash back and forth between home screen and lock screen. Finally I got sick of it entirely and reset my phone back to factory settings which worked for quite a bit--until today.

I tried opening my picture gallery and my phone froze and crashed. I attempted to restart it and now I'm having a similar problem. I can turn my phone on but all I get is a black screen with the toolbar showing at the top where my battery percentage and connectivity is shown but nothing else. I can double-tap the home button to bring up S Voice but can't use it without it going back to the black screen and if I use the Back button to minimize S Voice I get a quick flash of my home screen before it goes black again. Once when I did this I got a "TouchWiz has stopped working" window to which I opted to close the program rather than wait for it to work but that did nothing. If I try to restart my phone now it will just keep restarting itself over and over again and taking out the battery gives me no fix at all to this problem.

Is there something I can do to fix this problem? Because I can't afford a new phone right now and this is the only way people can contact me if I'm not at my computer.

You might want to try doing another Factory Reset, but this time also clear the system cache partition. As it appears your Note 3 is just stuck in a reboot cycle, restart it in it Recovery Mode. Wiping the system cache is just another option in the Recovery menu so wipe the cache, do a Factory Reset, and reboot to see if at least your phone starts up normally again. If your Note is running normally again use it heavily and see if it's stable again.

But if another Reset doesn't make a difference, it's probably time to think about re-flashing the factory ROM, essentially reloading your phone's Android operating system. This will require a computer to download the proper firmware (ROM) and to run the Odin application. This link takes you through the process:

If you haven't connected your Note to your PC before, you might need to load the Samsung driver first:

If you don't have access to a Windows PC, for Linux and OS X users there's an Open Source alternative, Heimdall:
