Help Black screen, boot failures, is my device broken?

Motorola Droid Turbo XT1254, Android 5.1, System 23.21.49.quark_verizon.verizon.en.US vzw
Bone stock. No bootloader, no recovery, no custom ROMs or images of any variety.

Alright so i have a problem with my phone where the screen will go black and not recover. It seems as though the phone still works in that state, as notifications come through and if i hold the power button i can feel the haptic feedback of Power Off message appearing, etc. Once in a blue moon the phone will seem to recover and then goes back to black.

If i force a reboot it will show motorola, show DROID animation, and then proceed to turn off - this is not the black screen, but for sure off. Occasionaly it does the Android is Starting Apps and cycles through. SOMETIMES it will actually boot up and work alright for a short while, constantly giving me hope.

I have done numerous factory restores, from the recovery menu as well as with the Software Upgrade Assistant.

Today i did yet another clean factory restore using Software Upgrade Assistant, did not keep data, and in setup i selected to treat it as a new device. It worked fine for about 3 hours, always giving me hope.

It is now black. On, but black. I can hear notifications come in. Restarting the phone might bring it back, but its only temporary and sometimes it fails to boot. This is from a clean factory restore, without downloading or installing ANYTHING other than the required updates to applications after a restore.

What gives, is my phone broken?

Started out of the blue! Went to skip songs on Spotify, screen was black, but music was still playing, and from there it just got worse and worse and now i can barely even get it to boot.

I'm starting to think its hardware related, but man, the fact that it shows the bootloader, all splash screens, goes through the entire restore process without a hitch. only later does it exhibit symptoms.

Ah well, i think i'm going to have to tell Asurion i dropped it. Is there any chance a custom firmware and ROM could clear this up? I'd be willing to give it a shot if it was worth the effort at all.

Are you doing a reset or is this the Verizon software repair assistant?

Verizon rep pushed through an Asurion claim, waived the deductible, and i should have a newish Turbo before the end of the week.

So happy he was able to push it through!
