Help Black screen of temporary death

My device will *black screen* with the lcd lights on but no functionality left. I usually experience this upon waking up my pro. Happens maybe...7 times a day. No rooting, roms, or bs. Just a little bit of LauncherPro UI customization.

The only way to get back up is to do a battery pull. Anyone seeing this? Noticing trends on when it happens? Precautions to ward this off?

A black screen as you describe, requiring a battery pull, is obviously a serious issue. I'd have returning the device in mind, after first attempting to remedy the issue once and for all.

I'd take the trouble to clear cache and data on Launcher Pro and any associated apps, such as Launcher Pro Icons, etc. Then I'd do the same on all other non-used launchers, such as the default one for Droid Pro (ADW?) and any others.

Then immediately reboot the device, select the default launcher, and reconfigure, watching for the issue to return. If it does return, I'd not hesitate to return the device for a replacement.
