Black screen / phone just shutting off at random

Has anyone else experienced their screen just going black and not responding to any buttons and only way to resolve is pulling battery? Kind of frustrated as it happened 3 times so far. It did it while I was reading a text and during a phone call. Any word on this ?

Was wondering if anyone else had a problem like this? My phone just shuts off for no reason. I have to pull the battery and power it back on. At first it was a small annoyance but now it is happening a few times daily.

Never happened to me. It is not normal and is not supposed to be happening. You need to verify if it is not one of your apps hogging memory so much that the phone needs to reboot to keep working. If it just shuts down and you have to do battery pull and start again, than there is something wrong iwth the phone.

Guys,

I've merged the "phone just shutting off at random" and the "Black screen" threads together here for you.

Thank you for the heads-up, Szadzik! :)

Cheers and best of luck to all!

Happens to me when I get 2 text messages one right after the other.

The chances of it happening increase when I have iFriends close by.

Ditto on this issue here. Have discussed this in a number of other threads (like "The Big Freeze") and each time have been interested to discover that a good many others are experiencing the same thing. One thing for sure at this point...it is not just an isolated bad phone, and must be a glitch that is more common and possibly specific to Verizon users (?)

I wish I knew the answer. For now, though, I'm hoping that it's beginning to be a common enough problem that a fix will be forthcoming.

Thanks for the additional reports on this if it's been happening to you!

I have had my phone randomly turning off at times as well. Simply powering back on like normal works, never had to do a battery pull. It even happened to me three times in a row last week while I was trying to talk on the phone. Got home after that and wiped my phone and it has happened at least once since then.

I'm wondering if the cheapo case I have the phone in is causing it to overheat and shut down as protection. Am hoping to find a new case fo it sometime soon and see what difference, if any, is made.

I have had my S3 from Verizon since getting it through pre-order in the summer. It just suddenly started the black screen/battery pull required on Sunday morning when I awoke to a dead phone. I really thought it might have something to do with the time change - but now it has happened two more times and I see everyones' previous posts.

I do have a number of extra apps that always seem to be in the process of updating. It will be a pain, but I figure I will try deleting those that I am not using often and testing after that by process of elimination.

I do not have a case on it, so imo I don't think that's your problem. I do notice that each time it has happened is when/or after battery life is in the 50% zone. My first removal will be Juice Defender and any other conservation apps.
