Help Black Screen

CTerrian

Newbie
In my car, I have a magnet mount for driving and using navigation on my LG K20. Every time I mount the phone on the mount, I get this annoying black screen with digital time at the top, and a few app icons.

How do I get rid of this?

The phone doesn't respond to anything on the screen. The only way to get back to the desktop is to press the power button on the back.

I don't like the fact that your using a magnet to hold the phone in place, which may be *ucking up your display, and also creating more harm than good to the circuitry...

A few of my friends use the magnet, I assume it is tested and safe as it gets used so widely (assuming you are talking about one purchased specifically for the job like this for example).

Anywho, that looks like a mount sleep/daydream screen. I'm not on stock LG anymore but take a look through settings for something like that (dock/sleep/daydream/something..) and turn off and see if that fixes it.

Magnet is apparently strong enough to activate the switch for folio/smart case, so it's gonna go to sleep every time you expose it to such a strong magnet.

LG sucks at giving the user any setting options to disable double tap, smart case or any other annoying features like that, good luck with those.

Looks like you're gonna have to use a universal dock
But yeah, I agree with the fact that the magnet is not good for that phone. I suppose you could use Tasker app to work around that problem, but I'd recommend a non-magnetic mount..

Ah yes good point, there is a setting to turn quick circle case off. Again I'm not sure where it is off the top of my head as my G4 is on custom ROM but that looks likely.

I understand that magnets aren't good for the phone but surely it would have had to go through some vigorous QC testing to before going on general market and being such a hit? With the other side you stick to the phone sucking out most of the magnetism into itself? The one friends I saw the other day must have been a good 1cm thick stuck to the back of the phone?

I have same. I put the phone onto the magnet by lower part of magnet to upper part to secure. And done slowly. Usually stays on. Sometimes I do it too fast. You'll get the hang of it.

@SavageRobot , first thing to understand unless you are purchasing directly from manufacturer (which I know costs more than it should) there are no guarantees. The third party market will make what every it can/wants if it feels individuals would like to have it whether it works for there item or not. This scenario applies not only to android devices but all things in the market place.

Unfortunatly, no QC is needed except for the tiny print, that is hopefully in language of country in which it is being sold, that states no affiliation to item (device) manufacturer. Which is pretty much the third-parties way of saying YRMV. Hope you get the item to work, but in the end you may have to go with the suggestion provided by others and select a non-magnet option.

Good Luck!

I don't know if this still matters but i have the lgk20 but no magnetic holder I have a thing on the back it's round and little and ever time I go to open it I get the black display screen I wanna know if I can do it at will, how can it be done on purpose

I have the same exact issue, I asked a technician at Metro PCS and they could not figure it out. Let me know if you find a solution. I love my magnet mount. It's the easiest mount to use specially if you take your phone on and off the mount a lot.

just curious do you have the magnet attached to your phone or on a case?

hmmm that is weird. i am using an otterbox case on my note 8 and do not have any issue. my friend has an s9 in a cheap crappy case and use a magnet on it with no issues. maybe the magnet is too strong? not sure other then to try another magnetic car mount.

This problem is probably unique to the LG 720 plus. My magnet is pretty strong but I have a case also. When it happens I usually take the phone off, the screen wakes up and I put back. Sometimes I have to do it a few times untill it works. It seems the problem is getting worse. I have to take off and on more times untill I get it to stop. Been thinking of changing my phone.
